Default Wheel Bearings and road noise, 2002 Mustang V6

As you can tell I'm a newbie to this suite. I'm hoping it is as helpful as the VTXOA suite I use for my Honda VTX 1300C.
Here is my question; My girlfriend has a 2002 Mustang 3.8L V6. Last week we started to notice a lot of humming at highways speeds. I took the little red and had her wheel and tires balanced and rotated, it helped a lot but did not stop all the humming. She has over 130K on her and I'm really leaning towards a wheel bearing going out. I jacked the car up and the right front wheel has a some play in it from top to bottom.
Has replacing the wheel bearing helped anyone else with this problem.

Thanks
Tim

Try this for a bearing noises. Say you swerve to one side. This loads the bearing where it floats? You know that feel you had in your hands? Pull it in and out too. You rocked it, so if you could, you could float it to knock into the cone, or out of the cone's 'taper'.

Now as you drive, you serve to load the outside cone is she makes a lot of the same noise? Then you pull the wheel the other way so the cone loads again on the other side of the cone taper. This is where she quiets down or goes away = Wheel Bearing!

If the tires are scalloped this can cause a noise very similar to bearing noise . The reason I brought this up because you said you had a front end alignment done and usually they won't or shouldn't do an alignment with bad front end components .

All, thanks for the great advice on the load humming noise at highway speeds. After about four trips to the parts store and sears, broke two 15mm crastman sockets. All the humming noise has been removed. It was the left front wheel bearings causing all the noise.

Thanks
tim
