odd thought....
maybe a 4.6L from an F-150 with a transfer case, but then your gonna need a front live axle and re-work your entire front end; i doubt it can be done without extreme fabrication.
it'd be easier to put the engine in the trunk...
Anything is possible with time and money lol. Idk why you would want an AWD Mustang though. If you really want to launch hard off the line or something like that, then grab an 8.8 rear end and some drag radials. It would be a lot cheaper than AWD.

Is it possible? Yeah, but it sure aint gonna be cheap. If you know somebody who would help you, or you can fabricate it yourself it would save you a lot of money. If not try calling a few mechanics to see if they would do it for you. Just be prepared for them to burst out laughing.

You would have to measure wheel bases of current SUV's or trucks. An Explorer or Ranger might be close, but then you have to deal with the unibody construction and all the wiring. I guess it could work, but it would have to be lifted which I don't think you are going for on a road course......
There is no possible comparison between 4WD in a SUV or pickup and AWD that is in sports cars. If you want to take your Mustang 4-wheeling then putting truck/SUV based 4WD would be fine. If you want AWD like an Audi/Mitsubishi/Suburu/etc you would need to use the entire drivetrain out of one of those cars. Not only would it be ineffective due to costs, trying to turn a Mustang into AWD using a Ford drivetrain is impossible since there are no Ford AWD sports cars to rip the entire drivetrain out of.
if im not mistaken (which i might be) i think there was a ford escort in the mid 90's with AWD and it was like a rally car i think, but they were pretty rare, if you could find one of them that would be a good option but i agree with most ppl on here it isn't gonna be cheap
