I did an engine swap from a 1994 thunderbird SC. Made car really fun to drive. I am selling it to move on to other projects. I have pictures of all the work i did. Let me know if oyu have any questions or need help with your engine swap. You can see my cragslist add for the car at 1994 Ford Mustang Convertible. NEW TOP, SUPERCHARGED, VERY FAST
I bet the car is fun down low. It has monstrous amounts of torque but not so much on the hp, especially when the rpm's start to build. It may be quick but it is not fast and it won't beat every GT it comes up against either.
I wouldn't worry about the comment..... I think he was stating that the SC's had huge torque, but lacked in hp because of low intake/head flow numbers. That was common for them that's why port jobs brought up hp. A properly flowing motor would show almost equal hp/tq figures.....
Looks like a fun project. Did you do the work yourself? How hard was the swap?

Thanks for the possitive comments. I made the project difficult. Instead of jsut slamming the engine into the car, i made a custome harness to plug the thunderbird engine harness into the mustang body harness. I am currently looking into doing something with the heads. I am thinkingof trying a porting job on my own on a set of junk SC heads. Hmmm not sure. In all honesty. I love doing the conversion, then i loose interest in the car. I want to do a 4v 5.4 into a 99 or newer body style next. Any way, this mustang with smoke any stock 94 95 mustang, I have also had great sucess againts the modualar engine gt's. I could do even better if i had a possi. I am still running with 2.73 gears with a one wheel wounder 7.5 rearend. lol!!!
Your add stated that it would take every GT it came across. I said it wouldn't because it won't. Sorry if that pisses you off.
I am not saying it isn't a fun car I am just saying that the hp numbers on the SC engine weren't the best due to an inefficient SC design along with some really bad head/intake designs by Ford. The Single-port engines suck, badly. lol
If you did do some head work on the engine then the hp numbers would definitely climb up quite a bit.
I think it would be awesome to put a 5.4L into an SN95 chassis, especially the 3v or 4v and do a N/A build up on one.
well, actually, i tore down the engine today. I am going to send the heads out and have them worked on. I was also thinking if it would be worth putting a SHO motor in a mustang. Not many of those engines around and they out out the same as an SC without the supercharger. It is fun to get those engine upto 10,000 RPM and go like a bat out of hell. I don't know, and sorry about before
Have fun trying to stick that engine into the Mustang chassis. They are front wheel drive engines so when you can get the custom work done to get them into a rear wheel drive chassis you should show us. lol
I have actually been wanting to see someone do a complete build up on an SC engine. I wonder what kinds of numbers it will make with a p/p job on the heads and a nice agressive cam. I think that the torque numbers will be mighty impressive and the hp numbers shouldn't be too bad either.

Did you swap the whole engine, or just the SC? Is there a way you can just take the SC from a Thunderbird and mount it on a '98 V6? Is this a common thing to do?
Really, I just want to get a posi-displacement supercharger onto my V6. I know Vortech and Procharger both make centrifigal SC kits, but I like posi-displ. Anybody have advice on this?

Yes you can take the sc from the engine and install it along with the other needed items but it really is easier to just swap the entire engine over because the SC engine is stronger and a bit better designed than the normal 3.8L engine. The M90 is not a very well designed sc though. You would be able to make much more power with the Centri units and they are a bit easier on the engine as well.

Ok, thank you! So while it can be done, it's not recommended...

He was talking about putting a Taurus SHO engine in a Mustang. That has not been done so far as any searches I ahve done and is probably next to impossible since it is a FWD engine.

See what I underlined? Did not seem like he was still on the SHO subject.
