Default Changing to limited slip need gear advice

I just scored an Auburn limited slip unit on ebay for $95 (used but guaranteed to work). I know this question is often beaten to death but I have different needs than many on this. I am looking for traction more than anything out of this swap. My current gears (3:27 I believe since I have the 5 speed) are in great shape and quiet and I was just planning on reusing them as long as I can install the chuck without resetting everything. If I have to reset the lash then I might change gears. Anyone use 3:54 gears? 3:73 are kinds steep and 4:10 is just out of hte question.

Could you guys that changed gears list what gears you got and what RPM you turn at 60/65MPH please, that would help me make up my mind.

PS: I am a mechanic and I have access to all the tools/parts to do this so going back in to change gears is not a big deal later on.

If you are concerned about the gas mileage or traction issues then I would just use the 3.27's.

You won't notice much difference with the 3.55's, that would be a complete waste of money and time. I can't speak for 3.73's on a V6, however on my 5.0L my 3.73's tack about 2100-2200 rpm at 70 mph.

My 3.73's were about 3 to 1 on speed to rpm's. 75mph netted me about 2,500rpm's. If you are not a track demon, then stick with the 3.27's and just install the Auburn. There is not setting up, there is only setting the shims for the carrier into the same exact position they came out of. The writeup is on the top of the tech page......

Thanks guys. And yes, not having to set the gears back up would be a nice time savings. The car is plenty fast for me with the 3:27 gears when it comes down to it and the chances of it seeing a track anytime soon are pretty much non-existent. I run Michelin Pilot tires and they are just plain greasy so this is my main motivation for the upgrade.

Another quick question. Can I just reuse the bearing/shims on my current chuck? They are in perfect condition, car has had perfect maintenance it's whole life and has not been driven hard (until I owned it, LOL!). The car only has about 48K miles on it as well. I have access to the tools to pull the bearings cleanly, as long as they decide to cooperate.

Yes. You must reuse your shims as I said before. And you can also use your carrier bearings as long as they come off clean and are not binding.......
