Default Highest mileage on a V6 3.8???

Hello everyone,

My beautiful '99 green V6 convertible has 103K miles already. In the past years alone I spent about $2000 in tires and maintenance and much of the work I've done it myself otherwise I would have spent even more. The car runs great but I know that soon I will need to replace the top as well, not the rear window, just the top.
I have been posting the car for sale locally for few weeks now because I'm concern that something else could go bad in the near future, like the transmission for example. I'm just tired pouring money into this car, but now that I replaced so many things I wonder how smart it is to sell it. Last week I replaced a noisy steering pump and now the engine sounds real smooth, so in a way I feel very sorry to sell it.

Please tell me your opinions: What is a good average mileage that the V6 can go before major brake downs? I think 103K is quite a lot for the avearge American vehicle, but I don't know much about Mustangs. If you have a 10years old ( or older ) V6 please let me know if you reached 150K miles without tranny problems or other major issues.
If you had other issue in your Mustang please list them.

As I said the car runs very well. If I end up keeping it most likely I will try to replace the top myself. I don't think it should be very difficult but perhaps it will take me a day or two.

Please tell me about your experience.

TIA

To tell you the truth it really matters how you drive your mustang because I have a friend whose mom has a 2000 mustang V6 convertible and it has 150,000 miles on it and it still is running decent. Not perfect. But it just goes to show if you're not flooring the gas all the time and youre driving it nice and maintaining it like you are you shouldnt have any problems.

Maintanence is very very important on ANY car.

My '01 V6 is going on 115K with no major problems.
I just replaced the spark plugs for the first time. Apparently the previous owner was good about changing the oil and other stuff but not the plugs. Since then it purrs like a kitten. The only problem really is a minor rear main leak. It drips two or three drops a day of oil. I added some Bars-Leak yesterday when I changed the oil. That should take car of that. The clutch was replaced about 15K miles ago.
It is running strong and I believe it will still be going good for thousands more miles.
Heck, I had a '95 Ford Ranger with 214K that ran like new. Don't discount Fords in terms of longevity.

A properly maintained and driven V6 Mustang should easily pass the 200K mark. That being said, You should expect 150K at a minimum if maintenance has been done.

Well buddy I also have a green stang its a 2000 5spd I'm also selling it.. and mine had 103k miles when I bought it now on a year it has 107k, The only things I had done to it was the clutch which it only needed a new throw out bearing, I bought used door locks, sparks, oil, tranny oil, and one of my steering wheel hose broke and I think I have a short cuz when I let the car off for 3 days the battery dies that's all.. The only problem it still has is when I let the accelerator off it makes a weird noise like is braking... But is still running like a Champ.
Practically my car is sold for 5k but I'm waiting to receive all the money,. GT soon you will be mine. BE READY.
I don't want to change your thread but also I would like to know what will be the best value, I will sold it with everything on the pics and signature. I also repaint the front, rear bumper, hoood, top.Thanks. Does someone think if its a good deal for 5k or I could get more on the internet..

From what I can tell you is this. Ask for 5k and obo I wouldn't go lower than 4,500. If your going to post it on the internet try Craigslist and Ebay is the best way to sell your car. Best of luck selling it.

Just hit 190k miles and runs like new.. just do usual maintenance and tune-ups there's no reason for it to just break down randomly. My grand am had 201k when I sold it for 1200 last month and that also ran pretty damn good, like new I say!

Thanks buddy, I was waiting for an answer, but I prefer ebay or autotrader cuz where I live most people prefer trucks... Any one else....

I have a 94 v6 with 130,000. I had to get a new computer a few months ago and put in some new plugs and wires, but runs great. Like other people have said, as long as you take care of it those suckers will last a long time.
