what can cause engine to whine other than alternator this isstarting to get to me.. it whines upon the whole RPM band and i got it checked by tranny shop. lemme know.thxs
its a whine for sure.. going up through out the whole RPM band.. normally loudest in first gear.
it could be power steering, my steering is stiff and was told its starting to go. would that be power steering pump? or rack.
and i had this problem before my power steering was going.
check your 2 p/s lines going to & from the pump & rack. they're really close together and rub against each other and can eventually leak.
if one of them leaks, the pump will get very loud and whine, and once the fluid level gets low enough, the wheel gets hard to turn.
dont drive on it if the steering wheel is stiff, you'd be running the pump dry which can completely toast it.
If you have a whine it means that you have a supercharger! haha if only right? But seriously, check out that pump, i think that would be the cause. I recently just had a ball joint squeal issue, so i know how annoying those noises can get.
