Tuesday night at 11:00 pm we finished it up. The gears were in spec and all the bolts are torqued correctly. Took it out for a test drive and have absolutely no whine from the rear end. I also painted the outside of the pumpkin and axle tubes with truck bed liner in hopes that it keeps it from rusting. The cover was polished up and a few layers of clear coat was sprayed on to keep it nice as well.
All in all, the job was relatively hard, dirty, and took quite a bit of time, but of course this was the first time i had ever changed gears before. We absolutely had to use my dad's work (machine shop) in order to get certain things in correctly and to get access to the needed special tools. I would not recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a few days, a nice garage, and the mechanical skills to work with tight tolerances.
Now to the good stuff. The test drive went well. We drove it around to make sure everything was in working order and the rear end was up to temp. We went to a back road and did a light launch and wow, even with the 3.73 gears in the auto, you definitely feel the extra kick. Also, at 35mph in town, i am now in OD, which will help with gas mileage. I couldn't be happier with the gears. Now i just have to break them in and take them to the strip, to see what i really got out of them.
