Default how difficult is it the change exhaust manifold?

how hard is it to change out the exhaust manifold? seems like the drivers side will be the easiest of the two. on a scale of 1-10 how hard is the passenger side? or is it better if i take it somewhere and have it done? dont want to get raped in labor costs if i can do it myself.

i have plenty of time i have a work van and the wife has her own car my stang is just sitting. planning on putting on shorties

Its not that hard. Just a little time consuming. Passenger side is a little more crammed, but you can still get to it.

Would be a good time to replace the headers with some BBK's or similar.

i just changed the drivers side. i actually had it in and out twice because i took it out to weld it and the weld didnt hold. it was a piece of cake. dropped both sides of the downpipe and unbolted the manifold from the head. drops out the bottom.
only my drivers side was bad so i cant help you with the passenger side sorry. it cant be all that much worse

its a bit tight but it's not hard...

remove the 2 bolts holding the egr bracket on (picture1) and then unbolt the egr line(picture2)
remove the cai, unbolt the manifold from the head and lift it up out of the engine bay.

why dont you just jack it up and take them off? when i was changing out my starter the exhaust is right there. i just kinda layed horizontally to the car on jack stands and used my left arm to wrap around the a frame and get the bolts. you need an extended ratchet thats fer sure. those bolts are like welded on the stud or something.

well obviously he has to go under the car to unbolt the flanges, but imho its easier to lift the manifold up out of the engine bay than to pull them out the bottom.

really? cuz on mine the exhaust would easily slide out the bottom. like...way easier than moving all the spark plug wires, cai, and other junk.

ChipsV6Specialties has (had maybe) a decent price on the Ceramics.
BBK 40080 3.8/3.9L V6 Mustang Headers (CERAMIC coated) 1999-2004 Free Shipping!

Not too hard to get them off from the top. The BBK's are a little more bulky though, I know I had a real tight fit getting them past the valve cover on the passenger side. And don't use the bolts, studs are way better. I only had to grind off one stud because it hit one of the header tubes.

Shorties are a waste unless you just need to replace them.

I got my Driver side replaced last night
I didn't take anything off the vehicle so it was a tight fit
had to do everything left handed since I was on the left side
No real issues reused metal gasket
ticking gone (and I swear response is better)
