Default 2000 v6 Convertible.. Gas mileage

I have a 2000 V6 Vert..and currently having terrible gas mileage...
Recently, I had a catalytic converter replaced. The guy from the exhaust place said that I also had a "Bad Header"...(drivers side)..that it air was escaping.

Question: Can a bad header = lost in gas mileage?

Or better yet...there has been a distinct lost in performance/power.

Is this the reason?????

HELP!!

Header = exhaust manifold.
Short answer, yes. Actual answer, i doubt it.

There is a EGR coming off your PASSENGER side header
that feedsback to the computer how the emissions look.
This could cause the engine to run too rich and waste petro.
I have an aftermarket chop job true dual setup so i'm not sure
where your O2 sensor is..
Maybe we can get a more educated answer from someone

Your O2 sensors should be located, one on the exhaust header towards the end, and the other after the cat. It should be like that on both sides, Mike. SCT Tuner.

the 2000 3.8L is pretty notorious for manifolds cracking at the flange, causing a nasty leak. everyone else, myself included, seem to have had that happen on the passenger side rather than the driver side though.

do you hear any ticking when accelerating, or does your exhuast sound any louder/worse?

when it happened to my car, it ran like a 3-legged horse.

you can try having it welded to save a few bucks, but i havent heard of anyone having luck with that.

my suggestion would be just to replace both manifolds with aftermarket shorties.
you could get a good pair of shorties for less than what you would pay for 1 at a dealership. the ford dealership here charged me $320 for the passenger side header.
or you could use this as an excuse to go with a pair of LT's. but thats probably a lot more hassle than you're looking for, im sure.
