How many miles are on your car? It may be time to do some mid to long-term maintenance. For example, upgrading shocks, struts, change bushings to poly. I switched to full synthetic oil and my car runs smoother and is a needle width cooler on the gauge. Sometimes the small stuff adds up. Gears are great, just remember the lower the gear (higher numerically) the less top end you will have so you will need more hp to compensate. I do like the SSM's powerpacks. Since my car is a daily driver and does roadtrips, I need to see what how much it will hurt my mpg before making the change. My philosiphy is to build a strong base first. Port and polishing the heads and intake is a good idea. I started with a 66 coupe, so I did suspension and brakes first and the engine second. Dad's tuning did wonders on the ol' 289. OK, I'm rambling...
i was doing a little research on demon coil pack or whatever it is for your spark plugs to go into. and i hear it helps a bit and makes you gap your spark plugs higher for better accel and things like that. wires i would go with MSD since thats what i went with. There is also limewire i believe but i dont know much about those. Most GTs out on the street (im sorry to say this and i dont mean to make it sound like v6 can take on v8 blah blah bull that always goes around) cant drive or mostly they dont keep their car in tune well. So with a few bolts on a good tune and properly taking car of your car. i say you could stick with the gt. Plus like i said if you come arcoss one that is modded ( not saying you should be street racing but just in case) you could hit that little nos botton if you have one. they dont go for much.
Just clearing things up so people dont take it the wrong way -.- i love v8s. also love the v6. i believe they are both equal. period

Alright Tell me where I can find a good Supercharger, I pick the SC cause all I care about is 1/4 mile race not the 1/2 that I would go Turbo. I heard you can find some for like 1k? There called mini chargers idk.
I currently own a 2004 Mustang v6 3.9 liter engine. 40th anniversary series. I currently have done the following to my car.
Cold air intake
Magna Flow Exhaust
Super chipped.
I was wondering what I should do to try and hit at least the HP or torque needed to stand par with any v6 our there at the moment.
I was thinking about doing the following:
Change the gearing
Under drive pulley
Performance spark plugs
Any ideas what I should do? And Where I could get good deals / the right stuff for my car? I'm a rookie at the car thing I mean I know how to change my oil, brakes, Fluids, Install a Cold air intake, A turbo and stuff But I in a sense want to make this car a sleeper so no Supercharger/Turbo for me. Any body have an idea?
What do you mean by with any v6 out there at the moment?
Because if you mean like, any v6 mustang in the world you're going to need about 20,000$minimum

And this statement? All the /fastest/ v6 mustangs are turbo'd.

40HP? from a cai and tuner? This is far from the truth, you MIGHT gain 10-15RWHP from a tuner and cold air intake only.

99.99% of the time i completely forget it's even there.
also, it will take a lot more work than some bolt-on's and a tune-up to be at a GT's level.
Let me just say to you 232-K7... THANK YOU for owning a V6 and being able to admit that a tune-up, some spark plugs, some UDPs and a CAI/TUNE(basic boltons), can't bring a V6 up to GT level Lol!
Kudos to you 232-K7!
And trust me and 232-K7 dude were just trying to give you the truth. I own both a V6 and a GT and trust me the performance on the 2 IS COMPLETELY different. Just dont wan't to have you believing a bunch of BS... But if you dont trust me and want to get embarassed go find a GT to race near you once you put in all your mods but dont say I didnt tell you so... Because the GT driver auto or 5-speed is going to kill your V6....

You do not need the same Horsepower as a v8, the v6 Mustang is about 300 to 350 hundred pounds lighter then a V8 (depending on options). So to get the same hp to weight ratio of a GT you need about 230 hp, that you can get with bolt on's.
Before this gets out of hand. a gt stock of the same YEAR 01 i believe he has is not going to kill you when ur full bolts on. im not saying one of the other is going to win. Since i seen my share of v6 vs gt races (stock gt mostly) lose to a fully mod v6 BUT its not like they win by a whole lot unless like i said last post. The person with the gt doesnt take care of it well. Which i know alot of people that dont in texas. (sad in my opinion). remember the years aswell please. 193 hp 225 torque or something like that for the v6. 260hp 300toque for the gt. V6 with a bit less weight then a gt. i'll say with your full bolt on set up you'll be damn close to a gt's lvl but never there once he lightly mods his car. Which is easy to do. When it comes down to it. at the end its a drivers race. Before this gets out of hand again. i love mustangs period. v8 and v6 the 99 -04 v6 sound the best to me with duals and crap but nother beats that v8 sound.

Hmm... If that's the case I wonder why my buddy with his 2006 4.0L V6 with full bolt ons(no nitrous) and an automatic transmission gets its ass handed to it ALL THE TIME by me with my 2003 GT mustang and this was when I was stock (since then I have added the 3 mods that you see in my signature).... Get over it V6s dont hang with GTs its no comparison V8 and V6... Unless your talking about like Nissan/Infiniti's V6s yea I know its sad that their V6s have the HP of our V8s but thats just the way it is I dont hate V6s I own one look at my sig but trust me my V6 and my buddies V6 is NO NO NO match for my GT I'll prove it any day.
The only way I could see my V6 beating my GT is like what 232-K7 said by adding a shot of Nitrous and a supercharger... But other than that it wont happen.... Its just the way it is.
The mustang family is like a food chain and the V6 is on the bottom.
And here let this video burn into your mind because I show it too all V6 owners that think they're ready to take on a GT... THE NEWEST V6 MUSTANG CANT EVEN BEAT THE 1ST GEN SN95 GTs... So it is VERY VERY unlikely that an older 99-04 V6 can hang with a MORE POWERFUL SN95 New edge GT....
really gotta read my full post.... im not bashing a v8 nor am i saying a v6 will win. hanging with a v8 is what i said n you wont get utterly killed by a v8 with those bolts on and the gt stocked =/ . thats sadly the truth. numbers dont lie =/. if he has full bolts on and weights less im 100 precent sure that it turned out to be a drivers race. with an auto its more of a who has their car in better condition. Jeez wtf people things like that so damn offensive? its a car have fun in it. We arent measuring our d*** here.

220, i said it'd take more work than just adding a handful of bolt-on's and swapping plugs/coils and having it tuned..cuz...it's true;
you could take a split port V6 and tune it all day long, it's not going to catch a 99-04 GT.
the same way a non-P.I GT wont catch a P.I GT by adding a few bolton's.
if you take a V6 and start adding money in the RIGHT places, that's when you start making progress.
doing simple bolt-on's is just scratching the surface. i still consider my car stock-ish.
and thanks for the illustration of our V6's at the bottom of the "food chain".
we definitely needed that, here, on the V6 forums...
all im saying is, dont underestimate V6 mustangs.
people who know what they're doing can use them to slaughter GT's and beyond...cough, cough, shinerstang, cough...
the biggest problem of V6 drivers (AND V8 OWNERS) is ignorance of the other's abilities/potential.
i laugh at V6 drivers who think a handful of bolt-ons will make up the 50hp difference that a GT of their year has on them. (technically 260-190= 70hp, but as mentioned earlier, the V6 is lighter.)
on the other hand, i laugh at GT owners who think that a V6 can't beat them unless they sink $7k into their engine.
take a split port V6, give it a good h/c/i setup, exhaust, gears, tlock, cai, tune, and a 50 shot of nitrous and you'll be walking on stock/near stock PI GT's all day.
or you could take $4k and throw on a procharger, or an M112; either of which is more than enough to show a PI GT it's taillights.
really gotta read my full post.... im not bashing a v8 nor am i saying a v6 will win. hanging with a v8 is what i said n you wont get utterly killed by a v8 with those bolts on and the gt stocked =/ . thats sadly the truth. numbers dont lie =/. if he has full bolts on and weights less im 100 precent sure that it turned out to be a drivers race. with an auto its more of a who has their car in better condition. Don't worry too much about him... He thinks that anytime someone says V6 and V8 in the same thread that they are calling the V8 slow... He thinks his GT is fast... I showed him a thread showing V6's with bolt-ons and their times and he called me a liar.
A stock GT is not fast. Not even close to being fast. Sorry to disappoint people...
This pissing match gets a little old. They are the same car with a few differences. I would rather have a V6 than a GT any day. I think they are underpowered and overweight. At least the Cobra has some power to back it up as well as an actual nice engine compared to the 2v... (I will get flamed now) lmao
Also, The S197 V6 guys need to learn a bit about engines other than the 4.0L... Just because you can gain 30hp from a tune/cai on the 4.0L does not mean that you will on every other engine. On the 3.8L you would be lucky to see 15-20hp at the crank, and that depends on other mods as well.
