Default New Owner 2004 V6 (ticks)

Hello All,

I picked up a 2004 V6 Auto with 80k yesterday. I have a couple of issues though.

On start up the thing ticks really bad for a few seconds then it becomes less noticeable. I did some searches and found this could be a lifter sticking? I'm gonna Seafoam the car and get an oil change to see if that helps. If that doesn't work how much would a repair like that cost?

My 2nd issue is that my interior needs some work. Whoever owned the car previously was not kind to it. All of the buttons and switches are well worn. Any recommended sites for some switches floormats and maybe some new gauges. Is AmericanMuscle a good site?

Thanks,
Giezr

americanmuscle is an awesome site.
if your looking for factory replacement oem interior parts, try latemodelrestoration.com

as for your tick, it may be just be an exhuast leak...when you run the seafoam through the vacuum line, check for any smoke coming out of the engine bay.
if you dont find an exhaust leak, and the seafoam doesnt clear up your ticking, you can try an oil additive from autozone, etc.

For interior parts, definately go to LRS(Latemodel Restoration). Then theres always local junkyards/salvage yards... If you need any kind of parts, the forums are always a good place to start Hit me up if ya need anything!

What if mine makes a similar sound after replacing the CAI with the stock air intake? The previous owner of the car held on their intake with zip ties so I replaced it with a stock intake? (It was free at a salvage yard)

just saying more likely then not it is a leak. when i start my car it ticks like hell, makes my car seen like crap. then it goes away when its warmed up after 3mins. i can hear it again if im near a building but only if the building is on passanger side, and i step on the gas, but its still nowhere near as loud as when i first started the car.
you should have taken a pic of the zip tie cai

This is the good part about having a convertible, I never have my A/C on to make the water drip on my manifold and ruin it, lol!

Oh hell no! That was nasty! XD I opened the hood and when I saw that I immediately lowered my offer for the car haha Well if it's a leak, I'll be sure to check my entire system after the manifolds just to be sure, thanks

Still getting used to the site. Forgot how to put the quote thing in there lol

Taking a picture would be so...messed up man. It was like 99% perfect except for that one ricey detail... No intake box, just maybe 8 or 9 zip ties... Im traumatized for life because of that haha

I am not sure if it will be the same for you because I have never heard your engine but for my 2000 V6 mustang when I was having her dual exhaust installed the exhaust works technician told me I had a cracked exhaust manifold(headers). If your problem is like mine its a relatively easy job if you know what your doing all you have to do is identify which manifold(header) is making the noise and then take it off and bring it to your local muffler/exhaust shop they should weld it for free or like $5.00 or at least my local shop did it for 5 dollars.

The way you described your problem sounds just like what mine does it'll start off ticking and then 1 to 3 minutes on the road its gone! The exhaust tech told me that thats because when the engine heats up it temporarily welds the weak crack in the metal of my headers and seals it so it works again minus the ticking. But once you turn off your car it'll let the crack open again because it gets cold. However it is something that SHOULD be fixed.

I highly reccomend either you checking your headers or having a local muffler/exhaust tech hear the noise at least.

Good Luck bro!

Cracked manifold... I should get mine checked out cause it ticks on start up too... It was odd that I didnt notice it until after I changed the CAI... Thanks for the info man

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the quick responses. I have my car at the shop right now. They think it's an exhaust manifold leak *surprise*. He told me he would get me a quote to fix it. How much should something like this cost to get repaired with a new part?

Update: He called and said it was the exhaust manifold but they couldn't tell if it was one side or both. (?) He then said for one side it would be $500 to repair, both sides would be $900. I think I can do better, but what should I expect for a repair like this?

Thanks,
Giezr
