so my stock steering wheel is looking uglier and feeling rougher by the day. i really want to change it out and i've been looking at some of those aftermarket wheels with the slight retro look. i was thinking something in black and chrome. however, i'm a little hesitant because i'd be sacrificing my driver side airbag and my cruise control buttons for better grip and styling. i'd like to hear your opinions

I eat rice on a daily basis. So does my car.
If you really need an older look then you must be ready to get rid of the air bag and cruise. To me, that is just unacceptable, but to each their own. I would recommend replacing it with a new/newer factory wheel from the same model range you have.

AM & LMRS have the fr500 wheel for ~$220, and imho looks great.

i wanted to do this but isnt it illegal?? thats y i didnt do it.. =/
if its not illegal then im getin one i never use cruise control and airbag wount be needed wit a 5 point harness.
The FR500 steering wheel is noticibly thicker & has a higher grade leather than the OEM leather steering wheel, which is far too hard & thin. IMO. The stock leather wheel measures 1.21" thick, while the FR500 measures 1.42". The softer feel & added thickness is very noticeable. Also, there are perforations at 3:00 and 9:00 postions to assist with grip, reduce wear, hand sweat.
Shouldn't be illegal to disable and remove the airbag. Your insurance company may decide to jack up your rates if they find out it isn't there, but I have never heard of an actual law mandating it to be there. Manufacturers are required to build the car with it though.
