Here is the secret.(Don't tell anyone)

Set #1 on TDC on the compression stroke. Take off the sensor part. Loosen your shaft assembly, turn it until bar sticking up is in the middle of the window. What that does is to ensure when the window comes around on the compression stroke, it will fire the #1 cylinder. Replace the sensor and tighten the bolt holding the shaft assembly. It really doesn't matter where the whole unit is located as long as the bar is in the middle of the window and the cylinder is in the #1 TDC position. On the 94-98's, I believe it is at the 8 o'clock position, and the 99+'s are at 4 o'clock, but it really doesn't matter. They changed the positions of it to accommodate accessories.

i guess i asked the wrong question i had to change the camshaft synchronizer not just the sensor i understand just the sensor does not matter i have the tool to put on the top of the synchronizer to align it then you install same as a dist.it sends a signal to the injectors for gas to start engine. i have done this a bunch of times and cannot see where i can do it wrong evry time i poured gas into throttle body and the engine tried to start of course it did not keep running no fuel. fuel pump is working i come to believe the engine i installe has been sitting for awhile and i think the injectors are plugged so i have pulled the inj. and fuel rail of off old engine and will install on engine. how do i find out if injectors are plugged ? any help will be alot of help thanks Bob

Bob*289,
I was basically in the same boat with having to line up the camsahft position synchronizer like you and came up with the solution. Take a look at http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...ing-3-8-a.html and hopefully that will help. The only thing is I have a feeling you may have other issues, because when I initially put mine back together, I was pretty far off on the alignment, meaning a few teeth and it still ran but was missing on various cylinders.
