Default I want to get more HP from my V6

Hi, I am new to the forums and to mustangs, total noob. So, I was wondering about getting more Horsepower from my V6, I have a 1999 3.8L V6 Mustang (I think its coupe), so what kind of parts and stuff can I get to get more power out of my car on a low budget. Being an older car, I dont want to put a huge amount of money in it but I want it to have good power. The reason is I got so disgusted earlier cause I reved her up on a straitaway and the pedal was on the floor and she was going a whopping 90 mph Thanks

a coupe is a hard top lol

a cold air intake ( cai ) and a good tuner/chip would be one heck of a start followed by a set of gears ( 3.73 manual or 4.10 if you have a auto )

after that uprade your exhaust to duals some mufflers that sound good, underdrive pulleys can free up some hp but dont get them if your going to supercharge later and port and polish the intake manifold that should you give you some horses

Yeah, whatever the base model is. lol
Can you recommend where to get these parts? Is AmericanMuscle.com any good? (cai page: 1999-2004 Ford Mustang Cold Air Intakes, Mustang Intakes at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
They got a cheapo intake:Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
And a middle priced one, which seems good but whats the difference between the two? BBK Cold Air Intake (99-03 3.8 V6) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

For the tuner, is the SCT LiveWire Mustang Tuner w/ Free Custom Tunes (96-08) any good for noobs,
or is the
SCT SF3 / XCal3 Power Flash Mustang Tuner w/ Free Custom Tunes (96-09)
better?

Ya if I was you I would stick to the basics like a cold air intake ,a tuner, gears dual ,exhaust, and Ilong tube headers and a windstar intake oh and you could even get a cam that is what I plan on getting one piece at a time that is just my two cent.

80 in a 45 is always great. If you know where cops like to hide out and you stay away from them, then street racing is fun.

Or retarded... Their is a difference between going 90+ on a country road or highway and doing that in town... At least in the country or rural area you are only risking yourself and an animal if they happen to jump out in the road.

Why would you be racing a stock 98 V6? I own a 98, and while mine is not stock it is still slow as balls. A stock one is even worse...

i think all of you kinda lead people down the wrong path when it comes to performance. from what i've heard all you need is a turbo kit, a 255 pump, tuner, and at least 42lb fuel injectors. i found all those for 900 dollars. and from what others have said and had experience with they ran 11 to 13psi no problem with the stock engine. that much psi is a huge hp gain.

it will deff. boost that 190hp up to around 340hp. which will deff set you back in yer seat and get you to 90mph before you know it.

if i had 1g i'd do it myself but things happened and i dont have the money i use to. so its either buy a tuner, exhaust system, cai, and oh....your already a grand out and only have like 210hp or get that turbo for 1g and have 280hp-360hp (5psi-13psi) lol yer decision kid

Idk if tma still makes kits or not.
However contrary to what has been said in this thread, a turbo, tuner, injectors will run way north of 1k. A good used turbo kit could be found for around 2500, handheld 400, injectors 200. Then of course dyno time.

Priorwood, just as a friendly heads up, Jakksincorpse isn't correct a lot of the time. So its best off if you tend to ignore him and listen to the other helpful people here. Do you have an auto or manual transmission? If you have an auto, look into the J-mod valve body. I got mine from VAPauto.com. It really firms up the shifts. The 70 dollar CAI from Americanmuscle.com will do just as well as any other. AmericanMuscle is a great site to buy from. Then look into a dual exhaust system. A tuner is also a great buy. I have the SCT X3 from Justin at VMPauto.com. The 93 octane tune is amazing and has given me the best gains so far. Good luck and have fun, but be safe

He is a Kid??? How old are you???

You have no idea what you are talking about... None of that is going to happen for $1000 unless you are getting everything for free, doing all the labor yourself, and then getting it tuned. Then you will have to fork out another 5,000 when your quality install fucks up and you blow your engine....

Have you ever done a turbo install? A supercharger install? A h/c/i install?? You seem to think they are as easy as installing a cai...

Learn a little bit more "kid", before you try to give advice about something you have no idea about.
