What are you wanting out of the car though?? If you are wanting straight line power then yes the GT500 is the way to go. All the different models are built for something different. Just decide what you want to aim for and go from their. You will be happier in the end.
+1 Especially when your average fox has a 200-300 lbs. advantage over newer stangs...
yea that is opinionated cuz the cobras sucked in those years any mustang up to 98 was retarded unless it had a stroker motor , boosted, or was before the downfall of the mustang aka the fox body. hmm ever wondered why ford almost stopped producing mustangs and kept the probe design?? lol jeez if it wasnt for them wising up and actually realizing gm was beatin their asses in the pony car department the stang wouldnt even be around. lol. in all honesty i think our demand for gas made the mustang what it is today. they had to of fired someone in that department after the 4.6 was made. cuz honestly with exception to that new specialized gt500 with 600hp the windsor sucked. and what do ya know? that 5.0 was even modified haha.
sorry to burst yer bubble but if you want the real stats the "new edge" stang is what i have and it weighs 3080lbs for the v6 and 3345lbs for the v8. the fox body v8 weighed 3530lb and the v6 weighed about the same as the new edge v8
you cant tell me a clunky ass car like the fox body with its steel frame weighs less than the newer stangs.

maybe you were referring to the 4cyl.
How to you figure a fox boxy weights 3500 pounds? And what's so special about the 2v 4.6? It'll get walked by a 3.8l Hyundai Genesis. And did you not notice the F-body Camaros used the same boxy design as the fox bodies? It's fine to have an opinion. I agree, the fox body isn't my taste, but it's still a performance bargain.

I don't mean to call you out, but just a few corrections..
The GT500 uses a 5.4, not 5.0. The 5.0 hasn't been stock in a Mustang since '95.
The GT500 is supercharged, not turbo, and has 500 hp at the crank, not 630.
I've never heard of a foxboxy weighing 3500 lbs.
How is your car lowered 4 inches? Is it bagged or something? What does that have to do with riding like a Lambo?
How do you get 210 rwhp from a new edge V6 with $400?
Um, buy a Camaro then? What's your point? Ha.
I'm no expert on cars, I know the basics, but this doesn't even make enough sense for Need for Speed.
To the op, I hope this thread gets back on topic.

It is more then common knowelege that foxbody Mustangs are among the lightest Mustangs ever made, with the only Mustangs being lighter then them are the mid 60's ones. And your "friend who works for Ford" is a moron too if he thinks a new edge is lighter then a fox. Plus your "steel frame" fox, is where your new edge got its frame and chassis from.
Oh and the foxbodies are what brought back the performance game, we kicked GM ass all throughout the 80's and early 90's with smaller engines and less power. Without the foxes, the sn''s, new egde, and s197's wouldn't even be here.

You make some good points. I always wanted a stang and glad that I have one.... only wish it had more under the hood. In addition to the stang I have a 2008 Silverado... 5.3 and a 2002 Tahoe... also a 5.3. So the 4.0 takes some getting used to. I really like the 5.4's in the GT500. If I could buy a 5.4 and put it into my current stang that would be great but who knows what I'll end up doing.

You already have a stage 2 power pack on it?? And you still think it feels sluggish in relation to your GM 5.3L? What do you have done to the GM's?? I have driven many 5.3L's and they are ok for the small displacement, especially from GM but they are not that much quicker if any than a 4.0L... A 4.0L with a stage 2 power pack should be much quicker than the 5.3L, it should be running in the low 14's at least and more along the lines of mid 13's...
It sounds like you would really be more satisfied with a V8 than anything though. If I were you I would just save up and get a GT500. You can find ridiculous deals on them right now due to our great economy... They do have a nice engine in them, except for the iron blocks but you only want a straight line car so it is ok.
Even a 3v 4.6L GT is still a good platform to start on. They can reach 500rwhp easily and that is plenty quick in a street car, trust me... lmao
sorry i was off 120lbs. actual curb weight is 3380lb
what do you mean bagged? i lowerd my suspension. i was sayig that cuz lower and wider equals better performance since that little amount of difference in the length wouldnt bother anything.
exhaust system, and larger intake. free up yer engine dude. its common knowledge. idk why people pay all that money for somehting you can make for 1/10th of the price.
i should have bought a camaro. i was saying that because if you werent retarded and actually read the conversation they were stating cobras beat camaros which is totally false.
