The baby seat is designed to be used in a factory seat with the factory seat belt.
The seat can only be used for the way it was intended. Any change or modification to how the baby seat is installed will compromise the safety of the seat and the child. My advice would be to take it to a fire station and have them see if they can help you get it in there better, if not, then use a different car.
When I was working at the Land Rover dealership, I had to be certified to install child seats.
