Question A question to my lowered Stang bros...

After lowering your car, are you guys bottoming out left and right?

I bought a set of Eibach pro springs for my 6R which lowered the thing by an inch and a half a couple years ago. Looks great, but dang, I have had some bad scrape outs.

(To any Washington guys: Ever driven up to Western Washington University and tried parking in the gravel lots or any of the dorm parking lots!?! SUICIDE.)

The worst scrape incident was at the Puyallup Sonic Drive-In where they made a makeshift ramp off the curb. Needless to say, when I went over it, the scraping was so loud people stopped what they were doing and cringed. I was dying inside.

I checked underneath afterwards, everything was fine except maybe some scratches. But I have noticed if I'm driving for awhile and it heats up, the car will make an odd crappy exhaust rumble while idling. I fear the scraping out has damaged the muffler.

I hear shocks and struts can fix this problem, or am I just screwed either way and should just drive more carefully?

(also: I don't drive my stang like an idiot, I drive like a granny over speed bumps and pretty much everywhere I go, my friends make fun of me for it)

Are you going fast over the bumps when you hit them? If you are that is your problem. If you are not going fast then it is the road. I go slow over everything. We have some shitty ass roads where I live and some good ones. I try to stay on the good ones. I hate scraping. But really the only thing to do is try to avoid low spots if you take care of the speed already. Shocks/Struts would help out a wee bit if you were hitting the bumps at higher speeds.

To answer your question with the speed, yes I do drive very carefully. ESPECIALLY after scraping out the first few times when I first lowered the thing.

So pretty much, you're implying that though shock and struts are still a nice performance mod for handling, it won't really make much of a difference with the bottoming out issue?
