Was having problem with my 97 V6 Mustang. Just started dying the other day when accelatoring. We checked fuses and changed fuel filter. Finally took it to a mechanic and he said he checked everything and cleaned air flow sensor. Is this a difficult job?
No, cleaning the MAF is a simple job. You just need a special tool, to remove the sensor from it's housing. CRC makes a product, just for cleaning the mass air flow sensor. It comes in a silver grey can, and it is called (CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner). This should be done, as part of preventive maintenance so your car will continue to run the way it should. When cleaning your Mass Air Flow Sensor, use nothing but this product. Do not use any electrical cleaner, it can actually damage your MAF. Take it out of the housing, spray it down like you would with Carb cleaner. Then let it air dry thoroughly, do not let anything damage the two metal wires that are part of your MAF. If you don't let it dry thoroughly, and place it back in it's housing wet your car will run like sh*t, if at all. Make sure when you remove it from the housing, that you pull it straight up without damaging the wires. You'll see what I'm talking about, when you remove it then do just the opposite to place it back in, Mike. SCT Tuner.
