Default 2000 Mustang 3.8 Fuel System Dilema.

On my 3.8, there is a hard, rubber or plastic hose that connects the left and right fuel rails together. The ends connect to each rail with what looks to be like compression type fittings, and the hose is about 10 inches long. It runs along the top, front of the intake. (Maybe called a crossover tube???)

Anyway, this hose has a pinhole in it, where the hose meets the fitting, and it's spraying gas. Two separate dealers tell me that I cannot purchase just this hose. But for the low, low price of $591.00, I can purchase the whole "fuel manifold assembly." Oh Joy!

I was wondering if a DIY'er can replace a fuel rail kit without much fuss. I also haven't found much in the way of aftermarket products except from BBK(?) But I read quite a few people have problems with their stuff leaking. And 600 bucks seems rather steep for oem.

I would greatly appreciate any advice/info, as my car is gonna be sitting until I find a fix for this. Of course, I can't believe they would put a hose between 2 metal(?) fuel rails, and make you pay 600 bucks for the whole system when it goes bad.

Thanks - Mike

The fuel rail is a bit pricey, so I would say to look around in a junk yard for the parts.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking about a junk yard for the parts. However, what I'm concerned about mostly is being able to remove/install it myself. I was kinda hoping that it's easy as removing the intake, and then the fuel rails. But my experience working with cars leads me to believe otherwise. I've never messed with fuel injection, so I don't know what kind of problems would come with it. Do you know if it's a pretty straightforward uninstall/install? Would they give you instructions with a kit? Thanks

It is pretty straight forward for the install. Just put a dab of grease on the bottom rubber ring of the injectors before installing them. Do not get it on the jet itself, just the rubber ring. It will help pop them into place and keep them from leaking......
