Default 1996 v6 mustang rear seal problem

I have taken my mustang into a shop and they told me my rear seal was leaking. I knew it was leaking but was told before it would be very expensive, these other guys (transmission shop) told me it would be 40 bucks. From what I know rear seals are a pain to change how could it be only 40 bucks? Is there another rear seal that isn't so complicated? My mustang is a stick. Thanks so much I don't want to take it in if it is going to be a whole lot more than they are saying it's going to be.

They meant the seal itself cost $40. Replacing it requires transmission removal so it is quite a bit more for labor.

no shop anywhere is going to replace a rear main seal for only $40, unless you're just that lucky .

to replace a rear main seal, you have to remove the exhaust, driveshaft, transmission, clutch, and flywheel. thats at least 3 hours worth of work, and they'll probably charge you like 4-5 hours for labor. if you want to save a few bucks, get your own rear main seal and bring it to them; latemodelrestoration supply has them for like $12.
