Default any tranny input would be appretiated..

i lent my car to my farther this morning. i get in it to go out and its fine. About 30 mins from driving it i restart the car, and put it into drive. but it was in neutral even tho it said it was in drive?.. anyways it ended up going into drive, but the point is that it scared the * * * * out of me..
is this something that needs to be takin care of, or to be scared off?

thanks in advance for any input.

When u put it in Drive and it was in N, how did you get it to D? If you had to play with the shifter then I'd agree cable, but if you just gassed it and it kicked in then you need to start worrying. Fluid level, internal filter, inline filter at the radiator, or some other things like valve body springs, etc. GL

yeah what i did was i has to bring it down past drive then push it back up to drive? and that took a load off my shoulders.

another thing is delayed shifting? if i punch the gas but then let off before end of RPM band it takes a second for it to shift then it will jerk when it shifts...
or another thing i experienced is coming out of second gear it doesnt seem to want to shift untill the last second then it will jerk/make weird noise like a belt sound.

i havent changed fluid which i am going to this tuesday and going to put tranny slip in it.. would this help my problem?
