Should I invest money into my 2000 3.8? Is it worth it?
I'm debating wether to keep my 2000 3.8 Stang and maybe get power adders such as cold air intake, dual exhaust and i was thinking about getting exterior mods like rear window louveurs, and rear side window scoops... My Stang is in great shape and i know adding these mods will add some power to it and make it look better.. however i only wish i had the GT.. so my question is what do you guys think? is it worth it to invest money into my sixxer?
get a gt cold air intake and exhaust wont add any power not that u will notice maybe if u put a turbo but then u got to build the motor get a gt

Thanks for the opinions guys, ya thats what i was leaning towards doing, hey can someone tell me if this is a good deal for a 2002 GT?, it's a convertible, black on black leather, with dynomax exhaust and k&N filter, it's listed at $11,000
Wow - everyone that responded either has a V8 or is very new to this site... So of course they're gonna say "get a GT"! Well, I have a V6, so I say "keep your car"! LOL
And I don't mean to argue; I only want to present the other side of the coin: V6s can be made to be quite fast, or even mildly fast - depends how much money you want to sink into it. There are reasons for choosing the V6 (cheaper initial cost, lower insurance, challenge of making it powerful, gas mileage) or for going with the GT (V8 muscle sound, already has good power, better differential, strong engine block) - so think about these when you decide.
The other thing to consider is how used your car is - does it have high mileage? Was it beat on a lot before you got it? If it's high miles, you probably should chase down a GT. But there's also the option of doing an engine rebuild or putting in a larger, stronger V6 (yes, they exits ). If the there's a bit of body damage, but the engine is strong, then you can focus more on looks or custom designed parts and/or mod the engine. Personally what I like to do with my car: when it's time for maintainence or a stock part dies - I replace it with performance or better looks! So you could do that, too...
Whatever you decide: if you stick with the V6, hang around here and we can answer your questions! Or if ya go with the GT, I'm sure the boys in the V8 sections of AFM will be able to hook you up! Keep us posted.

I say keep your V6 and work on a turbo set up Think about this, insurance will be cheaper than a GT and quicker with the turbo set up. I would keep your V6 a sleeper as well, you'll surprise many V8's and other cars as well

I say, if you're enamored with the GT sound, go for the V8... you're not gonna be able to replicate that with a sixer. The GT is gonna give provide more power output in response to performance parts upgrades but most GT parts cost more relative to comperable V6 Mustang parts. Also, like fobra559 said, "...insurance will be cheaper than a GT..." If money & long-term costs is a non issue, I'd go with the GT. Personally, I have a V6 that I luv & I enjoy working on it. I'm a DIY kinda guy & I look forward to installing power adders & suspension upgrades in the near future. If you're satisfied with someone building a fast car for you, get a GT. But if you enjoy the challenge of building a fast car or having a sleeper, then the sixer is your best bet. Whether it's a GT or a V6, they're all Mustangs & I luv em! Best of luck with your decision.
If you really want a GT that bad and have the money then you should get a GT. Building a V6 is not for everyone, and definitely not for people that are not hands on. I would personally build my sixxer into a GT eater since it's not that hard and in the end is cheaper than selling your V6 for a loss and buying that GT. Choice is yours, but it is obvious you had your mind made up before you made this post.
well i haven't really decided on anything yet, and yes it had really high mileage, like around 128 k... but it runs like new and it definatly was not driven hard before i bought it, the truth is that i love my car. it is my first car and it holds alot of sentimental value to me. I had lots of great times in that car and it's so fun to drive so i'm gonna keep it and maybe later on i can either sell it and go for a GT, or maybe do an engine swap for a motor with less miles
I personally would be much happier in the long run spending the money you will lose selling your car on a turbo kit and a rebuilt 4.2L engine and make it a GT eater with a V6. I have a dream and really hope I get mine done, makes no sense to sell it for a regular GT. Only V8 Mustang I would sell my car would be a 72 or older or a 2004 or newer Mach 1 or Cobra. 2V GT's are nice, but nowhere near as much fun as the 3V/4V cars. I had a 2001 GT new and it was a really fast car so don't think I am hating on them. I just wouldn't sell my V6 to buy one.
I have a 2001 V6 and I love it. I am investing my money into it and it pays off. The only way I would buy a GT is if you were to race. But I mean I have had a GT pull up next to me and rev their engine, next thing I know I am a car length or two ahead of them. So it just depends. My V-6 can beat some stock GT's. I say stick with the V-6.

What mods have you done to your car?

^^^A mildly modded v6 will not beat a stock GT unless the driver mod is in the favor of the v6.
You can make the v6 fast, and a lot faster than a stock GT. You wanted to spend 11000 on that one GT correct? And you may be able to sell yours at 7000 IF it is in excellent condition to the right buyer. Thats 4000 you lose. Do you know what you can do with 4000? You could go to Supersixmotorsports and buy a 4.3 beast v6 engine that is ready for any poweradder you want to throw at it. Or you can buy a forged stroker kit to make it a 4.2, add the cam of your choice, port and polish your own heads and intakes, upgrade your rearend, and have a awesome v6 with some money left over that can be put towards a poweradder. Or go to TMA turbo and buy a turbo kit and run 8 lbs of boost on the stock bottom end.
However, if you want a fast v6 that isn't going to cost a whole lot of money, you have to do almost everything yourself, so be prepared. Whatever you decide, good luck.

According to your profile, you're under 25. Do you realize how much insurance is going to cost you with a GT? You might want to upgrade to the GT in a few years, but with the $4000, the money you save with the insurance, and the fuel you save by having 2 fewer cylinders, you can build a car faster than the GT.
