Default Gear instal with trac-lok

I want to install 4.10 gears and a Trac-Lok but wherever i go they want to charge me 400 bucks and up just for labor!!!! its bad enough the parts alone cost $500 dollars!!! thats at least 900 bucks on parts and install!!! I know there are shops out there that can do it for less. I was hoping u guys knew of a good shop that is relatively inexpensive. I live in LA County so hopefully u cali guys can help me? I really do not want to spend close to $1000 dollars just for gears and a posi!

The reason it cost's so much is because it actually takes some skill to shim it correctly. Look around at all the posts from people with noisy gears. It looks easy, but without a lift and some experience it can time consuming - and millimeters count when you're lining up the ring & pinion and shimming it into place. Plus the little things that you don't think about add up: Gears = $150-ish; install kit & gear oil = another $100-ish, plus couple hours labor at $80- $120 per hour....

Find yourself a local speed shop. They tend to be a little cheaper......

I got mine done at GRC Performance several years ago. I think it was around $300 for labor. Give them a call, they specialize in Mustangs. They are in Mission Viejo.

Yea they do stangs all the time. There is a extremely slight howl at exactly 65 mph, but you can barely hear it. It only happens at that mph. Other than that it is silent. I think its pretty normal because of the gear size. I've heard that the taller the gear you go with, the more likely chance that there can be noise even if they are set perfectly.
