Default 2002 Mustang 3.8l Recent custom exhaust help.

Hey I just got my 2002 mustang v6 3.8l and trying to get the whole Rouch look with the pipes coming out the sides. Now I went to a small shop that someone i've know for 15years runs it. Anyways to the point They didnt changed the headers left them stock but changed the cats look just conventinal cats didnt ask but there only maybe a foot long if that. The mufflers they put in magnaflow mufflers again dont know what model but they go stright through, don't turn around. But got it all finished took it for a rip and I was VERY VERY disapointed. The car sounds like its a Rice burner and I absoulty hate the sound that they are producing. Now I called them back and told them I hate the sound they give off and want them replaced. The guy tells me that any other magnaflow muffler I put on it will make the same sound. Can anyone recommend anything for me. I want that nice v8 sound a true musel/sports car sound not a Rice burner! I am quite angry now that I went to this shop from another one just to save 600$.

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that your friend riped you off. I only use flowmasters but there is a set of Roush Magnaflow with side pipes on ebay for $100.00 but there is only 9 hours left with 1 bid.

or if you dont want to pay 80 bucks for each flowmaster. Go to advanced auto parts and buy urself a pair of welded thrush mufflers for 60 bucks (same exact sound as the flows)

1.) Welcome to the site, & to the forums.
2.) Unfortunately our V6's can't duplicate the V8 sound. We can make them sound very good with a good exhaust set-up but the GT sound is simply out of our reach.
3.) Sorry to hear you're not satisfied with the new custom exhaust. What kind of set-up do you have? What kind of mid-pipe do you have? If you're using a y-pipe splitter leading to dual side exhaust, then upgrading to an x-/h-pipe will dramatically improve your flow & sound. And finally, what diameter exhaust pipes are you running? I hope you'll be able to get it fixed to your liking.
4.) I'll help you with the spelling: "Roush"

I don't think Flows makes a 40 series muffler with the single inlet/outlet (offset in/offset out) on the same side that are compatible with a Roush side-exhaust set-up. Magnaflow, Pypes, & Dynamax each offer this type of set-up. I'm sure others do too but I haven't found any yet.

thanks for the spelling noticed I typed that after i sent it. Currently the set up is stright dual no H no Y pipes. The guys did a custom set up goes cat to in on the muffler and straight out the back of the muffler and right out the sides. Now with reverse flow mufflers do they give you a bit more clearence? I have about 5inches from the ground on the mufflers and tips. They ended up taking the skid bar off and replacing it with a thiner one. as for the diameter I am currently on vacation in michigan (i'm from Ontario, Canada). So dont have any tools with me but I'm pretty sure its around an inch and a half to two inches. *i'll upload photos tuesday when I can get it on my hoist*. I Found a place that sells the flowmaster 40's for 100$ each. Getting used to the sound of the mufflers now not as horrible but I still want that deep sound of these two mufflers! An almost true mustang sound

Well I wished I never went with this shop and payed the extra 600. not only i dont like the mufflers.. the damn things keep bottoming out and also the right tip when i turn on a slanted drive way.. Not happy. P.s when you want something done make sure someone does it the right way. not the easy/fast way.

your mufflers should definitely not be hitting the ground. this guy kinda screwed you up man. ive never been a fan of magnaflows. ive heard good things about flowmaster 40's, but if you want smoother, borla is the way to go....if you got 1000 bucks to spare

you could also try adding h-pipes to it...it helps get a deeper tone...but im srry to say a v8 sound coming from a v6 just isnt possible...u can make it sound good with a v6 but a v8 is just special

Just got it redone the other day. Instead of coming out the sides I had them throw them to the back. When I first heard it started I was very surprized. The sound had changed completly and the performance was alot better. They didn't add an h pipe he said not to bother but if I wanted it done he would always do it later on which i am fine with. It now looks amazing and sounds great! Has two Magnaflow mufflers still too. Doesnt put out that rice burner sound anymore its a completly better sound turns heads now

I have to wonder if you had an exhaust leak with the first setup. The sound should not have changed all that much. But if you had an exhaust leak it would explain the ricey sound.

Right now I have an exhaust leak on my LTs and its loud and ricey sounding.
