So I was looking into getting two tunes, first being the power tune, and then more importantly a fuel effeciency tune using the same 91 octane gas as the power tune (I see people mention 93, but my local gas stations only offer 91) This is my daily driver so I can only use the power tune for fun days like weekends and it's simply too expensive to run 91 octane without gaining something from it.
To the matter at hand though: Has anyone ever done this before: Swapping between two tunes regularly (Fuel Effecient Sunday through Thursday, and Power Friday through Saturday)? Is there any risk to the ECU doing that? Also does anyone know what kinda MPG gains you can expect from a 91 octane fuel effeciency tune? I already get 22 mpg and was hoping I might get up to 25 (I wanna beat my friends 4 cylinders in power, style, AND fuel effeciency lol)
Any input would be appreciated |
My performance tune gets a little better MPG around town than the road race tune does. But driving them both I can tell its because the road race tune delivers more grrrr. And grrrrr only comes from fuel. On the highway, I couldn't tell a difference if I am loafing along in either tune they are the same MPG wise.
The Performance tune seems like it takes off from a stop quicker. And the road race tune seems like it makes a little more power in the upper half of the RPM range.
I am waiting for Chris's All Out Tune to be emailed to me. Supposedly, that one has both ends covered.
The tune netted me about 1 MPG in town and about 2 on the Highway.
It will be hard to beat a lighter 4 banger in the MPG game, but at least you should be able to get close. I have seen 32 MPG on the GT by keeping the speeds down between 50 to 60 but that's not typical. I think there was a semi 50 yards in front for that one. But more typical for a road trip is 26 to 28 running 75 MPH.
This is an interesting compare. My 2.3L Ranger Standard Cab and bed with a cab high topper gets the same or slightly worse MPG than my 4.6L mustang. Several MPG worse at higher speeds. Go figure.
