Default Help to modify my 2001 mustang

I own a restored 1967 and I just acquired a 01 and as far as I know it's still all stock.
I was wondering how I could uptade the 01 without losing the smooth ride.

It is 2001 automatic with 93,xxx miles and soon to have a cold air intake.

Don,t know too much about the V6, but the cold air intake is a good start. It all depends on how far you want to go. I would think about an exuast system, you could do headers, cat's, and mufflers, or just mufflers depending on how much money and upgrades you want. The one thing I will tell you "in my opinion" don't try and make your v6 look like it is a V8. If it is speed your after, make it look like a strong V6. You could go the turbo route. you could go with an engine swap and throw that V8 in their that you would like. Keep in mind these are just my personal opinions. The cold air intake was a good start. Look into exuast, its not that expensive. Take a look at computer chips and maybe suspension. The upgrades for our mustangs are really endless, its how far you want to take it. Hope this helps, didn't mean to keep rambling on....

probably the first thing i would do is upgrade to a dual exhaust system. after that i would go cold air intake/tuner. then, depending on what you want, i would either go with steeper gears if you want more acceleration, or if you want a smoother ride, upgrade the suspension (LCA's, GT sway bar, UCA's, ETC.)

let us know what you decide, we can help you find the best deals!

i agree with all of that except the throwing a v8 in there part.. its just not worth the time money and effort it will take to do it.. otherwise everything you said is good advice.. so look into a dual exhaust and/or a limited slip and gears

dont take a look into computer chips though. yeah, they are good for the foxes, but you have a reprogrammable ECU, go with a tuner, it'll save a lot of headaches

Thanks, I have been looking at the magma flow exhaust from AM. What kind of tuner do you guys suggest? I was looking a suspension, but I don't quite know what I am looking for. What I would like is more power, but I don't want to lose out on the smooh ride like I have noticed some do.

I appreciate the advice, and all I want is a strong V6 not to fool people into thinking it is a V8.

Is it your daily driver? How much money are you planning to spend? CAI and tuner are good. A true dual exhaust is great if you like the sound; I personally like flowmasters 40's, but that's personal opinion (a little youtubing can help you make your own). Gears and a t-lock are great as well, but you'll be paying more at the pump, so you might want to think twice if it's your dd. The mods can go on and on.

SCT is good. I have the livewire, which has a few extra features such as estimates on 1/4 mile times, it can monitor certain engine aspects, and can estimate hp and torque. Some things aren't very accurate, but they can give you an estimate a lot better than the buttometer. Most guys go X3, which doesn't have those extra features, but performance-wise does the same thing. Diablo is also a good brand.

Well, depending on your budget, I'd look into a limited slip, cai, tuner, and true dual exhaust (you can go all the way to the headers or just to the midpipe depending on your budget). If you have beaucoups of money, maybe some nitrous oxide or even forced induction. I wouldn't mess too much with the suspension at this point as it is your dd and you don't want to make it ride too rough. I have a friend who upgrades suspension in every car he gets and the rough ride drives his wife crazy. It's a good thing to have if you can handle it, but you might not want to jolt your teeth every time you hit the road.

I appreciate all the advice and I am looking into the exhaust and the slip. I still don't know about the timer though.

You could get a tuner and get a custom tune from some place like tillman. there are several brands to look into there. I'll be getting one myself soon.
