a few days ago i was driving around in the lovely city of cape coral florida; and out of nowhere a huge pothole jumped out in front of my car.
it shook me up a bit, but didnt really think much of it, until i went on I-75 the next day and noticed the steering wheel was a little crooked...awesome.
and to top it off now there's a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds...even awesome'r.
well today work was finally slow enough for me to throw my car on the alignment rack and see what's what.
well it was out, but not too bad...nothing seemed bent, even my caster is still dead on with 0 degrees of cross-caster. camber is a little iffy, but still in spec. good thing too, because camber isnt technically adjustable and it's a real pain to get camber back in spec.
after i finished aligning my car, i balanced all 4 wheels and took it for a test drive.
steering wheel was on-center, no drift or pull, but the vibration was still there. so i dismounted my LF tire and spun the wheel on the balancer and sure enough it was bent. it had 0.0021" of an inch of lateral runout, which is enough to cause a noticeable vibration.
CRAP.
(1) new wheel $129.99 at AM. at least i didnt blow out the tire.
i was thinking about buying 2 more new wheels, putting them on my car now, and taking the other 2 and putting some nitto's on them and using them for track use. i guess i might as well, right?
right now i have 17x9's all around.
if i bought 2 new 17x10.5's, then i would have the 2 leftover 17x9's to use as track shoes. i dont think it wouldnt make much sense to have track wheels & tires that are skinnier than my street setup.
lol if anything i want to spin on the street and stick on the track, not the other way around.
and if i used 2 new 10.5's for a track setup, that still leaves me driving around town with a bent wheel...so i just dont know yet.
but i'm leaning towards buying 2 new 17x9's and fitting 2 of my old wheels with nitto's.
(for track use).
