Default Buying My First Mustang

Hello everyone I am new to the forum and could use a little help.

I am selling my 4x4 and am ready to dive into the mustang world. I want a '95-'98 manual V6. Cant afford to go GT I would rather save dough for mods. Im looking to keep it under $4000 because thats around what I will get for my truck. My question for yall is, what specific things should I check out when test driving and such? This will be my first smaller car and my first ford so a little insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Zach

94 was the same body style as the 95-98 so that might be a option the head gaskets go on those motors right around 100,000 so check that but getting one under 4,000 will be easy

i love my 95 v6 - you'll change everything as time and money allows - make sure the body/frame is good.

Plus insurance would have given lj a hard time. I found a good article on autotrader when I got mine. You could probably find it with a little research. It had just about everything you need to check. By the way, make sure you have a mechanic look at it and get a carfax.

My parents never did. And I got the stang when gas was nearing $4 a gallon.

Ditto.

I got mine for $2,500 so getting one that cheap will be a breeze. I have a 95 btw.

Check for leaking fluids, play in the steering wheel (from left to right), any frame damage, if its a 5 speed make sure the clutch is good in it, look over the engine and exhaust for any oil blowback.

mae sure you check that the oil doesnt look like coffee cause then just walk away the 94-98 v6 stangs are known for headgaskets also be sure you can test drive the car put in 3rd gear e-brake up and let off the clutch if it stalls that means the clutch is usually ok like the other guys said check basics like oil, collant, powersteering fluid, brake fluid you no basic stuff umm also right after you get the car mae sure you check brakes espically the rears cause they can some times freeze up and that will slow you down and kill gas mileage and good luck

e-brake cable... mine went out the day after I bought it... ('98)... make sure it's stiff enough for ya... also fuel pump gives issues around 150k+... makes sure your fuel pressure regulater holds pressure... like stated above... have a mechanic look at it and get a carfax... good luck on ur first stang!

if the budget allows, i suggest to opt for a 99+ model V6. the entire top end was improved in 1999, and there is about a 40-45hp difference between a 94-98 3.8L and a 99-04 3.8L.

good luck finding your 'stang!
