Default new t-lok issue

i just installed gears and a frpp t-lok in my car, completely new everything. i installed myself completely by the book. my problem is that i am having some serious axel hop when the tires break loose at all, even a little. the whole car shakes. theres no noises or anything when i drive normaly. sometimes i get a little bit of chattering on my first tight turn when i leave in the morning. anyone else get this problem? does it just need time to break in?

yes i did. i made sure i got gear oil without modifier in it because the t-lok came with ford friction modifier. maybe i put the wrong gear oil in it tho, i put 85w140. should i have used 75w90? i thought i had used 85w140 when i changed it originally so thats what i got this time

85w140 is the spec. Welcome to the wheelhop world. I would suspect either shocks, play in the lower bolt sleeves, or upper/lower bushings. If you are saying that everything else checks out okay, then it would be either one of those.....

i was thinking that might be it. it feels like chattering clutches tho. i never had any thing like this with my one-wheel-peels. i was getting nervous, this was my first rearend rebuild.

ok all my control arms and bushings look good. the shocks were ok but i went ahead and changed them anyway because they were original with over 100k on the clock. i still have this wheel hop. and like i said it seems like the clutches in the t-lok are chattering. this even happens in the rain if the tires break loose. somebody help, i hate having to baby my car like this especially with a new upgrade. do the ford t-loks need time to wear in the clutches?

What did you set the backlash at when you setup the gears? Did you take everything out and put it together the same way? T-locks do not need break-in time. I have a feeling something is messed up in the rear end. If you did not have this before, and you do now, it was installed wrong..... Sorry.....

ive done it in school on a benched rearend just for learning purposes, this was the first real one ive done, but i did everything to spec i dont see where i could have gone wrong. i even had a perfect contact pattern on the gears. torqued everything to spec. the only thing im not 100% sure on is the carrier bearing preload because my shims wernt labeled and i didnt have a mic. my book said to get .007" of runout, which i had, then add .008" (half to each side) to preload the bearings. i had to wing that due to lack of a mic but it seemed ok
