Hey ya'll!! I hate to put up another thread about a CAI question, but, I was thinking, since I have an AM CAI (the one that goes out the fender wall). I was thinking of cutting the metal tube (after the MAF) short enough so the filter sits in the engine bay then put a barrier to prevent heat (just like the K/N cai from AM). The reason for me thinking of this is because I would like to access the filter more easily than to reach under the car. Has anyone done this? Is this a good idea? I just don't want to spend $$ on a brand name...

i would stick with the setup that you have. its the same one that the bbk kit is. the fenderwell design is the best for getting the coldest air into your engine. the only thing that you might want to change is a better filter but thats about it. i would not move it at all. they like being in the fender.

The accessibility of the air filter would be the only benefit of doing this... you might even lose a couple hp by bringing the intake closer to the heat of the engine... I wouldn't advise it, because I really don't see the point in making the air filter easier to change... honestly... how many times have you changed it since it's been installed? 2? 3?
Yeah, the reason for this little idea is for an easy access to inspect/ change the filter whenever needed. Usually, I change my filter whenever i change my oil, but like to inspect the filter whenever i check my oil levels at the same time or whenever i check my car over all.
So, if i make a cai setup identical to the KN setup, then I might loose HP due to the heat being produced by the engine? Then why is the KN cai over $200? I know about paying for brand names and all, but what makes their setup style any different in comparison to the price they advertise? I appreciate the feedback/ inputs by the way.....

i did the same thing yesterday and i like the way it looks (need to get a red filter though to match my engine...lol)
i also didnt feel any loss in power since my engine is always at around 180..(cuz of the thermostat) but i did feel a slight difference in my throttle response "nothin too big"
236, thanks! I knew I wasn't the only one that thought of this!! I only read half the page so far due to work. Thanks for the link though!!! I'll let you guys know if or when I do this!
