I have a 2002 mustang V6 auto. Is it more cost efficient for me to put performance upgrades on the V6 or should I do a V8 swap or just sell it and buy a V8?
stay v6 save some money and go twin turbo on it.
little pricy but check out j's twin turbo on youtube its nasty i want to get my v6 up to par for the kit but we'll see
actually it might be jays twin turbo but yeah you get the idea check it out its nasty just an idea theough the v6 without that will never compete with a v8 but the v8 swap is quite simple being that all mustangs are max wired from foglights to the 460 speakersystem evenyou guys with hardtops have the wiring for the convertible componets its weird ikno but the swap is prettysimpleyou would need the engine ecu rear end driveshaft and gauge cluster from a gt tho

You make it sound so simple to do a swap... It isn't a hard thing to do but generally it cannot be accomplished by just anyone... And saying TT it is just idiotic... Do you realize what goes into a TT setup?? It is not just a 3k setup unless you only want to drive the car for 500 miles...
I say stay with the 6. The only V8's to go with in my opinion are the 32v 4.6L and that is way to expensive of a swap. You can get the split-port 6 at 260-270rwhp for a moderate amount of money and that is decently quick. All it requires is a simple s/c setup and the supporting bolt-ons. I just do not think that the 2v makes gains well enough to justify the swap. If you had a GT then that would be a different story but you don't so it doesn't matter.
stay v6...we are way lighter than the v8's and we only need about 500+rwhp to be in the 10's
id say go with a single turbo setup boost it to about 8psi...Port your heads/upper and lower intake manifold and get a cam.. (id say gears/tlok are the first mod though )
and if you want to make more power. get forged internals and raise your boost higher but remember if your wanting to make more power you also need better fuel delivery (bigger fuel pump/injectors/fuel pressure regulator)

Agreed! But don't forget the true dual exhaust, and a tuner... as far as the fuel pump, u probably won't need any more than 255lph ... oh and remember... suspension, suspension, suspension... no point in putting all that power into a car that can't handle it when it's moving...
it doesn't matter which way you go... simple fact of the matter is if you're going to put power into the V6 it's gonna require replacing a lot of the stock parts... but it'd STILL be cheaper than buying a GT... well... a GOOD GT lol...

i would not get it since you would just run a straight pipe all the way back...
Why always V8 for performance? I would rather have a V6 any day of the week... I care about handling, not straight line performance. Different people care about different things. I would much rather have a V6 that weighs much less than a V8, can still gain enormous amounts of power and is much less front end heavy. I am just saying that not all people care about the same thing and different builds call for different performanec aspects.
I would argue that the split-port heads when ported properly are better geared for power than the NPI/PI heads are. The 2v 4.6L just does not inspire me. lol Foxes are fun though. My friend finally has his up and it is straight nasty.
ok, before this turns into another "F*** your engine" thread, consider this...
if you have a little extra time, money, and resources to correctly build up a 6 banger, are inclined to do something different than what everyone else is doing, dont pay attention to people constantly diss'ing V6 'stangs, and enjoy a challenge, then i'd say you should mod your 6-shooter.
however, if you are looking for easy, tried and true, bang-for-the-buck performance, traveling a beaten path, and everyone having a fond opinion of your car simply because it has 8 holes under the hood, then i suggest picking up an AutoTrader.
that's really what it all boils down to, imho.
and swapping a V8 into your car is a waste of time and money unless you're in love with your car.
Well right now my v6 has a CAI and its getting a super 44 muffler and a sct excaliber 3 programmer. any suggesttions where to go after that? and thanx for the feedback
What do you want out of the car? Drag, fun street car, handling? A little of everything? You should really decide that before anything. The builds for all those range quite a bit. lol Of course to build a fun car isn't really anything too difficult. Most people are happy with a bit of suspension/drivetrain work and then mostly power.
