Im still on the hunt for my first mustang, most of the stangs in my price range have around 115k to 170k miles. About what mileage do v6s usually crap out? I would like to make mine last and i plan on investing in quite a few mods, but i am just curious about yalls' high mileage v6s.
It is hard to say. A properly maintained Mustang can go for 300K+ miles.
Mine has 118k and I am religious about oil changes, filters etc.
If you are looking into a higher mileage car, make sure they have records of regular service. Both my 1995 Ranger w/204k miles and my 1988 Toyota 4x4 w/228k miles had records of regular services (oil, filters, lube, fluids etc.)
I know of a 1998 V6 that has 232k on it and it still is running and driving.

It's all about maintenance. Just like Redlyr said, got to keep the fluids changed when they are due. That's includes engine, tranny, rear end, coolant, and brake fluid.
But i've seen brand new cars drive off the lot and crap out 30 mins later, it's rare but it can happen.
When you find the car, go over it or take it to a mechanic to have it checked out. See how well they have taken care of the car and fluid changes.

It's called preventive maitenance, if you maintain your car it will last a life time. Just as any other vehicle, I have a friend who has had his 70 BOSS since new. Til this day, the car looks and runs new, Mike SCT Tuner.
You need to be VERY picky about high mileage cars. I would go for something at 100k or less especially if you are planning to mod it. And like what was already said, preventative maintenance is the key
My own 1970 BOSS 302, now with a 71 429 SCJ with all forged internals. It also has an F-2 Pro Charger set at 22lbs. of boost, capable of 40lbs. of boost Fuel injected Aeromotive Fuel System 90lb matched injectors SCT Tuned by me with custom PCM. At 22lbs. of boost last time dynoed, 1050RWHP and 980RWTQ has built Viper 6 speed with Currie 9" and 35 splined axles. Still have original drivetrain, and still runs new have owned since 1972 looks and runs new. Check my photo profile, and you be the judge. There are way too many mods to list, Mike. SCT Tuner. P.S. I have been playing with Mustangs, for well over 40 years without any problems. Just keep it maintained, and synthetic fluids help a lot, Mike.
Hotshot is right, beware of high mileage cars. And if possible ask if he has a maintenance record folder, I have folders on every vehicle I own. My 96 SVT Cobra Convertible, has the most miles of all of them and that's only 55,187 original miles, Mike. SCT Tuner.
