Thinking about X-Charging, worried about problems.
So I want to give my sixer some serious power. I am liking the bolt on x-charger kit from steeda and explorer express. I am just worried about putting anything aftermarket on my car in general.
What all problems would I have to worry about because of the supercharger?
What is the likelihood of the problem, how to avoid it, and how much might it cost to fix.
Would really appreciate some answers...I don't know too much about engines and am trying to learn :.

lots to worry about it but it canbe safe a few ppl here have one,
my 3 biggest concerns, rear end, beef it up
thermostat houseing crap from ford, although the XC comes with one same design....crap... and last but not least non keyed cams, run it hard enough and they will slip..what a pain to redo, about $1800 for ford to retime, or buy the specialty tool for $300 ( witch i loan out free of charge )
but man o man is the XC sweeeettttt

X-C April 2010,Heads, Cam,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.
The transformation has begun!
The rearend could break, the motor could break, the tranny could break. Will any of these break? WHo knows just be aware it can happen. You have to decide if in the event your motor breaks can you afford to get a new one. I came to terms with it before I bought my blower. So far so good. If you abosulutely cannot afford to fix these major things consider not getting the Xcharger.

Clutch and rear end will probably be the first to go. The x charger doesn't put out as high numbers as a turbo but boost hits instant. I would say on an X the motor and tranny won't be anything to worry about as long as you don't abuse it.
I will say check around though. Unless you are just dead set on the X, you can get other methods of forced induction for quite a bit cheaper.

Well I got an intercooled sts turbo kit, (minus the tuning stuff, tuner fuel pump and injectors) for 3045. Alot of argument that people don't think the STS kits are efficient but on 5 psi I got 286 rwhp and 331 rwtq., and it hits peak boost by about 3500 rpm.
Then there is the ATI Procharger that you can get the complete kit for about 4100. Just check around. I would highly reccomend the STS kit. I love it.

I have looked at the options and really like the X...
Yeah the car is bone stock...one thing keeping me from buying it is if it was to majorly screw something up I couldn't afford a major repair bill right now.
The car is an auto transmission, which is the other major thing keeping me from buying it....but with some tuning and maybe a the streetfighter from TCI it would be alright.

An auto with a positive displacement blower would better pretty mean at red lights.

Yeah my above post says the tranny could break. WHile it could Im kinda wrong in that the tranny in your car is the same as used in the GT. Its very strong. And since you will be making not too far above GT power it would be alright. There are alot of blown auto GTs running 11s and some 10s with the stock auto tranny.I dont want to scare you from buying a blower. I was just saying be aware for every 10 success stories there is always the one guy with a major problem.

not to jack the thread, but could they hook up a squire turbo to a slightly-less-than-bone-stock v6 with a frpp h pipe out back? or does the squire depend on being able to latch on to that one central pipe? I am currently running about 225 hp and 255 lbft, and while it is quite enjoyable, i always dream of being able to pull just a bit harder :P
PS. I do not believe that the v6 and v8 share the same tranny, v6 has a trusty and sturdy (but not invincible) T5. The GT rocks a nice Tremec TR-3650 (very strong but again not invincible transmission).

I had a dual exhaust that I converted back to a single because I got the single turbo. You have to y the exhaust back into that. I will say that you could buy a mustang gt kit for yours if you intended on having it custom tuned. That is what I should have done, You can get single or twin, as the only difference is the dual exhaust and tuning stuff. If I were you I would go twin turbo with two really small turbos. They would spool really quick but still work up to a high boost.

The automatics share the same tranny. You are correct about the manual though.
