Default What about Nitrous?

So, I don't want to go balls to the wall on my V6, as I'd rather pay off this car and work on saving up for a 2011+ Mustang if it really will be as powerful as they say...

Anyway, I was thinking about just getting a tuner with gears and then throwing a nitrous kit in the car. I know nitrous doesn't have the same prestige as a blower, but I'm just looking to make my car more fun on the cheap.

On a related note, do I have to do suspension or drivetrain work on my car to keep from destroying it with the added power, if I do this?

I tried searching for discussions, but most of the results brought up that dude's signature who has a V6 with nitrous in it. Another post had two responses, none of which were useful to me.

Thanks.

What Dude's sig? Mine?

Nitrous can be a pretty lethal weapon. Drivetrain upgrades are always suggested. Do you have an auto or 5 speed? T-lock?

Yeah, I meant you. No offense meant, I just couldn't recall your name off hand.

I have a 5speed, and I was planning on picking up the t-lock along with the gears but currently I'm spinning on one wheel. Is a t-lock necessary with the added torque?

A t-lock is strongly suggested, but your clutch will be very pi$$ed at you. I would suggest t-lock and clutch minimum.....

What year is your car?

you don't really have fun at the track 'till you get a tlock. .

if you plan to spray off the line with no lsd/locker, you'll go nowhere and kill your 60ft's.

I have a 2002. I don't want to bother you guys for every last detail on how to upgrade that car, so long as I at least know where to start looking. If I know what I'm looking for I can drag the car into a shop and have them do what needs to be done.

Minimum? I definitely don't want to destroy the car since it is my daily driver, so I suppose this is probably going to require a bit more than I originally thought.

Maybe I'll have to wait until after I go to the desert at some point to really make this financially feasible.

I'm a bit ignorant, but here's what I was thinking: Get a kit that's "smart" enough to auto spray at a certain rpm with an open throttle (so if I smash the gas it knows to spray at say 3k rpm). I'm not really sure what an lsd is, so I can't comment on that.

I figure the gears can give me some kick off the line, and the nitrous can kick in once I'm moving to improve the mid-to-top end. Honestly, up until tonight nitrous never crossed my mind. I read a tech article on them over at AM and saw how much cheaper they were than a blower and that got me interested, but interest != knowledge.

you're not a bother, this is what the site is for .
a tlock/lsd/locker is a differential that will spin both wheels on launch.

i have a digital window switch that engages the nitrous system at 3,200rpms and turns it off at 5,600 rpms, well below the 6k rev limiter. (you never ever ever want to hit the rev limiter while spraying). my window switch can also lock out 1st gear/2nd gear if traction is an issue. if i didnt have an lsd, i'd definitely lock out 1st gear.i also have a wot switch that will only engage the nitrous if the car is at WOT.

gears, tlock, and tires will definitely improve your 60ft's, they sure as hell improved mine.

gears without a tlock will be more of a pain in your ass than anything else.

I may be running into a lot more money within a year, but I may decide once I have the money that a blower would be worth it. Or further yet, I may decide that I don't want to bother putting any kind of a PA on a V6 and pay off my car and work on 'upgrading' to a newer V8. Or just enjoy not having car payments.

I don't know, I usually change my mind every 12 days let alone within 12 months. I think I have a better idea of what to expect, however, no matter what I choose to do. Thanks, guys.

I can at least do gears, more exhaust work, and a tune and t-lock without breaking my savings account so I guess it's "first things first".
