nope. a tuner is basically an interface to allow you to interact with the computer that operates your engine.

it allows you to read what trouble codes may be set at a particular time, it allows you to also datalog certain things that are going on in the engine as you operate it(you probably wont use this function), and it also (possibly most importantly) allows you to replace the computer's standard tune(program) with a custom tune that you buy from a shop over the internet or have someone create for you after putting the car on a dyno.

the tuner's main use is to tweak the timing, air and fuel ratios to get the most performance out of the engine under its current setup. that should be a pretty good summary

does it allow me to fix anything directly off of the tuner,or it tells me whats wrong and then i fix it, and i am not putting my car on a dyno so do i really need it, and i want the timing and air and fuel ratios to get the most performance out of my engine so can i do that with out a tuner or not, and tell me what i do if i get a tuner, do i plug it into the cars engine computer and then read what it says and do what it says

the tuner will read what trouble code has been set and that will allow you to better investigate and see what is wrong if something should happen to it..

without a tuner you cannot change the stock a/f ratios and timing.. you should also not be the one to adjust any of that unless you really do know what youre doing with that.. when you buy a tuner from one of the many places that sell them usually you can get a custom tune that will come loaded on the tuner..

when you get the tuner in your hands depending on the place you got it from it will have the custom tune in it.. it comes with an instructions CD and you're supposed to follow the directions and update the software on it or whatever..

once that's done all you do is plug it into the obd2 port.. go thru the selections and click load tune then it will tell you to turn on the key but not start the engine.. after u turn the key on it does it all basically by itself.. don't unplug it or touch anything until its done.. try not to have like your stereo on at the time as it says to minimize the amount of power you're using elsewhere in the car.. when its done then ur all set and have more horsepower than you started with
