Default 97 3.8 Engine Swap Question

Thanks in advance for all the great information on the site. I recently purchased my first mustang and it needs some work. It's a 97 V6 3.8L and the engine is the main problem. I'm wanting to replace the 3.8 with another 3.8, but I'm not sure what all models and years will interchange with the least mods. I basically want to find a lower milage 3.8 that I can stick in there and get it running quickly. What I need to know is years and ford models that will work and if anyone in the Tennessee area knows where to find one that would be great.

Thanks,

Mustang Salvage 865-484-1944. Off asheville hwy in new market. There is another one close by nearer to sevierville. There is also the Tennessee Mustang Club on the net. A lot of the guys are from east tn and are always swapping stuff.

94-98 have your same engine but better would be 96-98..u can also fit the 99-04 3.8l ..but for those im sure u need to do other moddifications..some here will know more about it..check how much a 4.6l swap will cost you or 5.0...

V8 swaps can be expensive unless you do a carbed 5.0 swap. 4.6's will need extensive work. You need to make sure the engine balance is correct if you go with a '99+ V6.....

OK so I have located a 2001 3.8 mustang engine in my area that I'm thinking about buying to put into my 97 mustang. I need to get some information on what all I will need to modify in order to get this mustang running with the 2001 3.8 in place of the 97 3.8 that I have? From what I have been reading the fuel rail mods are the biggest changes, but I need input on everything that I will need to make this work if some of you can help.
Thanks,
