Any Suggestions? Opinions on Rear window louvers as finishing touches?

I've got a 2000 Silver Mustang V6.
Currently the car has a few exterior mods and a new fairly good stereo system.

Xenon Hood Scoop, Xenon Side Scoops, Black 8in Racing Stripes, Black Rocker stripes, and a Chin Spoiler painted silver with black stripes continued from front edge all the way to the end of the back bumper.

Im looking into the MRT hinged Rear window louvers. Mustang Rear Window Louvers, 94-04 - MRT Aftermarket Styling
I've decided that if i were to purchase these i will have them painted to match the car and then stripe them myself aswell.

I have a friend at work who is into GTI's and all those types of cars. He has been throwing a fit everytime he thinks about me buying these louvers. He continually asks everyone he knows and they all agree with him.

Me and my dad have decided that we liked the idea, But i'd like some feedback from fellow mustang enthusists!

2000 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe:
Black Race Stripes, Denver Broncos license plate and seat covers, Xenon Hood Scoop, Xenon Side Scoops, Black w/ Chrome Lip '03 cobra replica rims, 275/40/17 back tires, and 245/45/17 in front, Painted mach 1 chin spoiler, JVC Radio, 4 Blaupunkt 170 Watt Speakers
.....work still in progress
To-Do list: 1. rear window Louvers($400), 4. silver Caliper paint ($80), 5. Chrome Fog Headlights ($80), 6. K & N Air Intake ($260), 7. Red line elite quick lift hood kit ($120)

This is my own personal opinion.

Rear window louvres are a Retro styling item and look best on the boxy retro S197's or '69 - '71 Mach I's. They are kinda the "Mullet" of the car world.:nogrinner Don't get me wrong, I like 'em, just in the right year.

I think the curvey swervy body of the 99-04 Mustang is just the wrong style for rear window louvres.

Customized cars look the best when the overall theme is not broken up by "out of character" parts.

Bone Stock '07 GT 4.6, Redfire w/ parchment leather, Automatic. Had to sell it 2 years ago.

If it looks right, it is right, and I decide if it looks right. Paraphrasing Sir Sydney Camm (of Hawker aircraft IIRC)

i was recently thinking about buying louvers myself, i think the thing is if your gonna go retro you have to go all retro, for example im getting the louvers with the quarter window scoupes, hoop pins, racing stripes, and a 69' style offset pony grille, nothing that wouldnt have been seen back in the late sixties

The only thing college is teaching me is how to be good at being broke

In vino veritas

I love my Louvers Don't ever see any other black mustangs done up like mine. They help block peoples high beams/HIDs on the freeway too. I wouldn't paint them I like the contrast But to each their own. Also I agree that they are the mullet of the car world. I've always liked them on the white trashy 80s/early 90s Camaros.

Go:Pypes mufflers, Custom H-pipe, Fidanza stage 2 clutch,SCT Tuner, American Muscle CAI, BBK 65mm TB, MotoBlue 42% Underdrive Pulley, 17/10.5 (315s) Black Cobras, Strut Tower Brace, Steeda Tri-ax Shifter With Pistol Grip Show:Mach 1 Chin Spoiler, Shorty Antenna, Sequential Turn signals, Bullet Pedal Set, Red Bumper Insert, Black Mach 1 Aluminum Louvers, Hood Pins
Beats:Pioneer HU, Alpine 6X9's Type R's(F/R)
UPS: Richmond 3.73 and Differential Cover.
Soon: Rear end rebuild kit and T-lok

Thumbs up

Thank You Everyone!

I'm loving the feedback, keep it coming!

The whole point in my thinking is not to pick a style, its to stand out and look different from all of the rest.

For Example: i Striped the whole car every inch, vs some people who just do the big parts not the small parts.
I also painted and striped the Chin Spoiler and the wing.
I've got a slightly staggered look, but that's going away soon because of wheel alignment issues and one tire is a lot more worn down vs the other 3.

BTW i'm liking the comment about blocking high beams! the comment of some privacy. My windows are not tinted. If i tint them i become even more of a cop magnet so that is a no.

For Quarter window scoops im actually looking into "94-04 Mustang Retro-style C-Pillar Panel - Gen 2" Found here: USA AND* CANADA

They look nice on a black car.(Rear Window Louvers)

Otherwise I've only seen those on 2005+ mustangs and maybe a few tuned out imports(not ricer ones).

I like em, just depends on some stuff(like above).

personally I like the lovers on the newer s197 mustangs because they have more of a retro box look to them, but you can do what ever you like to your car.

Need full updated picture of your car.

However (IMO) every time I pass a car with those that isn't a 60s or 70s mach 1 I want to kill someone. The don't flow with the 99-04 at all, and can barley be pulled off on the 05+ but it has to be the right car (and I've yet to see that car)

I think with the exterior mods you have they would look great. I have them on my 06GT and love them. I still think that leaving them black would look best for the contrast BUT go with your plan and if you don't like the color key you can always paint them again.

Pics when you're done!

I think they'd look just fine. It sounds like you got a car that will work with 'em pretty well. I'd keep 'em black though.
