Default V6 vs. V8 handling ? ? ? ? ?

How much truth is there to the claims that V6 handle better than V8 due to the less weight up front?

There is a lot of truth to it. I own a V6 and a V8 Mustang, and although the weight diff isn't huge, the V6 feels much lighter in the curves.

The difference in curb weight is miniscule between the two, 60 pounds is the average from what I've seen at several resources. If all this is on the front it would give you a little advantage on turn in, a little less mid corner understeer, and a little advantage in braking. But you are giving up 70hp and 82ft-lb. to the V8. So your advantage in stock trim would be more than overcome at the track by the V8. But with the right parts from Kenny Brown, you can close this gap considerably.

Noooooo!

My car weighs 3100 lbs. The GT weighs in at 3400 lbs.

There wasn't much difference between the pushrod 302 and the 232, but there's a HUGE difference between the pushrod six and the modular 8.

The only way it weighs 3290 is if it's the convertible.

Where'd you get the stats?

Cool V6 vs V8

Hey Mustang Mike,
I would recommend going to your near-by Ford dealership and posing as a potential customer and driving both. To me, the V6 feels like the three Thunderbirds I had ('84, '89, '92-all w/ the 3.8 liter) and there is a world of difference between those and my current '94 GT.
Another responder mentioned putting the GT anti-sway bar on your V6. If you are interested, I have in my possession from a 1994 GT, front & rear anti-sway bars and front & rear spring sets ( I replaced the factory originals with Eibach)
Happy Motoring,
MrMustang

The rear sway bar is a must.

Have you weighed your car? Just wondering which is more accurate. Everywhere you look it seems to be different. I wonder if they are using the same amounts of fuel in the tank as this could throw it off close to a hundred pounds. Is this stuff scientificly done by these automotive websites, or just them test driving one down to a truck stop or something?

Most of the automotive websites never update or check their information. Especially, autoweb, msn, etc. You can get better information through motortrend, or similar online publications.

Your title will tell you, in any case.

My view on it is that the V6 has the potential to handle better but doesn't actually handle better from the factory. Despite the better front/rear weight distribution, the V6 is still going to nose dive into the corners without a rear sway bar. With a GT rear sway bar or better, the V6 becomes the more nimble vehicle.
