Default How much would it cost for a shop to install an H-pipe on a 1997 Mustang V6?

Alright guys, a while back i bought a flowmaster exhaust kit from american muscle that just bolts up to the factory y-pipe. Now i want to convert it to true duals. There is a shop by my house that i am going to take it to, but i just need a couple questions answered. Generally how much would it cost for them to cut both y-pipes and weld in an H-pipe, and would it be cheaper/better just to have them put straight pipes in? i read a thread on here that said our engines are even firing and dont really need a crossover. Any information is greatly appreciated.

You are in luck! I have a 97 v6 as well and I just had an O/R X-pipe put on. The only difference in the application is that I also put L/T headers on as well. I slipped my x-pipe on the headers and then drove it to the shop. I then had the y-collector thats going into the flows cut. Once they cut that off, they just welded in a couple of pieces of pipe from the ends of the x-pipe to the mufflers. I am 99% sure that you and I have the kit. (purchased from americanmuscle.com) this portion of the install cost me right at about $100. I figure if the only extra labor they'll have is a couple more cuts with a reciprocating saw and some M.I.G. wire, it shouldn't be more that $150. Shop around

You are correct in that they do not need a crossover.

To cut the pipes and run new piping I would say anywhere around $100 or so would be fair. They are going to have to do a little bending to make everything line up right.

Alright thanks for the replies. $100-150 sounds good to me, im going to get a quote tomorrow. Any opinions between straight pipes vs. H-pipe?

H's are unnecessary and since its more pipe and welding more costly. If you havnt already done it see if the price difference is worth it to you, it wasnt for me, and i love my true dual super 44's.

I just had a 3" off road X-Pipe and a set of HighFlo Cats installed, they had to cut the cats in order for the 3" to fit in, modify the X-pipe a little and replace the 2.25" pipe back to the axel backs w/ 3" and all of it only cost me $150.00 cash for the labor, and they did an excellant job, very professional.

Well based on that, $160 doesn't sound so good any more just to weld a couple straight pipes in.

yeah, i paid 300 to have my straight pipes added, the bends to get the right muffler set up, as well as paying for the two brand new flowmasters and the tips. So i only paid about 100 on labor.

if you want the best sound get a prochamber, its a cross between an x and an h pipe so you have the flow of the x pipe and the sound of better than an H-pipe, but if you just going for cost effectiveness straight pipes are fine, a little higher pitched/ raspy up top but thats a V6 for you

that sounds great, ill have to look into that. I am trying to be as cost effective as i can, but if paying a little more means better sound, then i can probably swing the extra cash. thanks.
