Default An unaswered curious question...

How and why does the newer 3.8 have 50 more hp?

Im curious.... I just never knew, I know one is a modular and the other is pushrod, but what did they change?

You mean the one thats scheduled for 2005?

If thats the case it is not a 3.8 but a 4.0 V6 SOHC, and what they changed? well everything, it is a completely different engine.

i think im right to assume he meant from the 98 to the 99. Right dewd? or did he answer your Q

Oh from what i understood, the 99 3.8 only had the same bottom end as the 98 ... so technically if I had better flowing heads and intake my car would technically gain 50 hp?

there are no modular v6's

the split port head configuration and intake manifold changes add up to a lot more air getting to the cylinders, along with a cleaner burn.

yes.

but the 94-98's have more flow potential.

The one scheduled for 2005 has 15 more hp, and lower torque numbers.

THe 2006 or 2007 3.5L should have 250 hp.

Oh so if I were to say port and polish my intake and heads i would have more than 50 hp like 70+?

I don't know if the cam has changed from the 99- models . . .

But if the cam is unchanged, then yes, you could probably get that kind of hp from a 5 angle port and polish.

If you find a local speed shop, a three angle port job shouldn't be that expensive, if you remove the heads.

The 99+ V6's actually have less cam duration than the 94-98's.
