Howdy everyone ... I came across this site when I was browsing Mustangs on the internet, and I thought this would probably be a great place to get a couple of things answered, and perhaps even get an opinion on a few things....
I'm fairly new to cars---I don't know much about any mechanical aspect of vehicles, but I can at least get an impression of them. I'm soon to turn 16, which obviously equals license! I've been looking for many cars, and it's been pretty tough to decide what I want. Cars that I have looked at the most seriously include a 1998 Honda Accord, a 1997 Acura 3.0CL, several Integras, a Prelude, and obviously what I've come here about, Mustangs.
My dilemma, as with many other people, is money. For a first car I'm fortunate that my parents ARE going to pay the bulk of the price of whatever I get, as I know many aren't lucky like this. I'm not sure exactly what the price is limited to, but I'm sure it can be no more than $8000.
As I said earlier, I do have impressions of different cars. I'm looking for a nice interior, which is defintely something that I found in the Accord, but unfortunately it's just not something that I fell in love with, as it was a 4 cyl. 5 speed that was rather sluggish compared to other things I've driven. It also wasn't something that I really wanted. There's just something about Honda's that turn me down.
Another impression I've had is that of on Integras. They look different, yes. They're relatively fast, or so I've seen from driving one. I also REALLY like what you can do with them, as far as body kits go.
The Prelude--I thought the backseat was pointless, it looked retro, and it was so confined I didn't see much point of it being there. I didn't see it as very fast, either.
One of the first cars that I ever started looking at was the '97 3.0CL. I had many mixed feelings about this car. I hate the way the things look on the outside, but the interior isn't all that bad. What made me fall in love with this car was the speed of it. I loved how fast the thing would get up and go, it was really pretty nice. Maybe it's not as fast as I think, someone give me an opinion on that. I'm thinking it is though, with the 6 cyl. as well as how light the things are.
But the reason I have explained all these trials with other cars is simple---in my opinion, the cars above are in classes of their own. When I think of those cars, I think of body kits and, the biggest thing of all, high pitched, fast sounds. This is where I need help. A mustang that I recently drove, obviously a 6 cyl. because my Dad simply won't go over this, was really different. It seemed really sluggish getting going, but as we exceeded around 40 it really felt fast. It actually compared wih the way the 3.0CL threw you back into your seat as you were taking off. Another thing is the sounds...the Mustang has the more deep, roaring sound... It's just so much different....
Some of the questions I have come here to ask are the following:
1) would any of you EVER consider putting any kind of body kit on a Mustang? if not, what are some options to change the appearance of the Mustang while keeping it clean? lowering common with Mustangs? also, what are some things that can do to make the interior look nice?
2) can the 3.0CL and mustang compare, or is that a ridicolous question?
3) if you can give me any reason why I should like a Mustang more so than the cars I listed above, tell me. I have no side as to what I'm looking for, that's why I need opinions.
4) lastly, the car I test drove that we're pretty serious about getting:
Year: 2000
Mileage: 59960
Ext Color: Gold
Int Style: Charcoal/cloth
Engine: 3.8L 6 cyl
Transmission: 5 spd
Price: $6995
... Is this too good to be true, or are most Mustangs like this in the same price range?
... Would you ever consider driving this color of a Mustang, or is the gold a little too much?
... there is no spoiler, but obviously could get one...
... painted on the bottom of the doors is a Mustang emblem with 3 black stripes. too much or no?
::: see attached for a relatively small image of the car :::
... to anyone who takes the time to read this and answer, thanks in advance. I know this is a lot, but this is something important to me, and I need opinions. Thanks!
That is a pretty ragular price for a V6 mustang, that body style is the only one i would even think about putting a body kit on. Cervini makes some awsome kits and a lot of people are putting this body kit of V6's that was on this form:
But i am not a big fan of kits, i am old school. the most i will ever do to my car is put a Cowl, about 3 inches. make it look like a sleeper.

Mac H-Pipe, Mac Cat Back, Rebuilt AOD with Transgo
stage 2 shift kit, and a 2500 stall coverter.
more to come in time.
I've considered Body kits. for your model I would do a Roush or a Cobra Type R kit.
But I would never emblem them cobra or Roush. they just have nice kits.
As for my model I just stuck on some lil things like the chin lip or spoiler. to accent the features.
That's a nice price for a 2000 I would go for it. they have a 190 hp an fun to drive.
things I would do to it. the gold is alright but I would repaint it to a mean color or just put black racing stripes and such to kinda even out the gold.
new rims for sure wider and dual exhaust.
The emblem witht he 3 stripes and the pony are remeniscent of 60s and is very cool! looking to throw some on my car
I would also buy a pair of smoked head lighs instead of those clear. and a mach 1 chin spoiler if you dont do the body kit and you seem to be in the mood for a spoiler.
That car has nice potential and it is 5 speed. you can do things liek putting in 3.73 gears and you wont have that sluggish start at all and porlly would take a seocnd or two off you your ET so you'll love the feel of your car then.
If It was me looking to buy a car. a Mustang I would get that one. doesnt look or sound beat up good mielage for a 2000 4 years old. 5 speed. looks liek a good buy I would do a lot of work to it
only thing I would do if I was low on money would do the stripes and lights or repaint it to liek a nice red or black or blue. good luck man.
PS go for the stang show some american pride. good sound and the girls love em

Well I just bought my 1st Mustang a few weeks ago, a 2004 "Pony" package in black. I have never felt so excited about a car in a long time. I have been a LONG time Lincoln Town Car driver/owner. That being stated, the Mustang still holds true to its orginal 1964 idea, an afordable sports car for anyone. I just came back to college, 8 years late. I have never recived so many looks from people. Once in awhile, I get rude comments, but there just jellious.
As for the comparason from Mustangs to Japanes cars, I would say your compairing apples to oranges. From what I can remember, the Acura and Honda are still Front Wheel Drive, Mustang is the good ol' trusty Rear Wheel Drive. They would have a differant feeling in drivabilty to them. IMO, the Acura and Honda have the personality of a paper cup, there all over the place. Before I was a college student, I was a Volvo tech. From that point, the Imports are far more expensive to maintain. But when it comes down to it, its still your choose to get what you want, get what makes YOU feel good and right.
FYI: Get the car checked out by a certifed mechanic before buying any car and dont be afraid to ask the owner questions about the car. If he hesitates, there might be something questionable, keep your gard up.
Hope this helps,
Jonathan

Yeah, that's a pretty representative price. I've seen NEW ones going for around 13,000. Payment would probably be about the same.

I think that's a good price for it. The color is unique, for me, I would either add stripes or change it to red or blue. I would certainly consider a body kit; I think they are cool, maybe a saleen kit. Me personally I like mustangs over other cars because they look so cool, they accelerate pretty good (IMO anyway), did I mention they look so cool ?
