Default 01 v6 stang vs. 99 v6 camaro

Hey guys its me again, the 01 v6 auto owner, i just got whooped up preatty bad by a stock 99' camaro 6 cyl. auto and it still hurts. My friend was in front of me at a turn light and we both took off on the green. I was right on his tail for the first bit (He had a small head start because i didnt want to take the chance of ramming him) but when we got to the 35 to 60 range his sorta left me a by like 5 car lengths, than my car could of passed him around 80 but i didnt due to traffic. Now ive posted before on how to upgrade my car but i just want to know if a cold air intake alone will beat him, because i dont know about the undrive pullys yet, sounds good but than i got to get someone to work on my car. But to you think if i put on a K&N Generation 2 cai my performance will beat his? Thanks fellas

Does he have mods? You should be able to beat a 99 auto camaro. I have beat a stick before. Mine is a 2000 V6 auto. you have a 1/2 second on his 1/4 mile.

No, if you do it correctly, you'll just get a bit of wheelspin.

you put your left foot on the brake, and hold RPMs as close as you can to before the wheels spin. Usually around 2000 RPM. Then release the brake and floor the throttle at the same time.

I beat a stick off the line with out power breaking, but I was wondering this is a little off topic but would power breaking warp my aluminum break calipers, and is there any way to keep from jumping I always do a little.

I've never heard of warping calipers.

You have to think about the physical forces. they are shear forces, and not expansion forces. I can't think of any way you can warp the calipers, unless the pressure on the disk exceeds the design parameters. Meaning, you'd have to have a heckuva large booster to have hydraulic pressures that great.

I think the most important statement was when you said he was in front of you. I got beat the same way until we got side by side (GTI). When he is able to floor it and you have to hesitate he is getting a head start. That is huge. Go again either from a stop or roll but be side by side. It will be different this time.

True, it's tough to come back when they're equally matched, but I assumed the lag was due to the tranny downshifting.

Y'know -you floor it, it stops for a sec to think "Is he really flooring it?" then it goes to first and launches.

Powerbraking lets the computer know you mean business. Or mechanical controls for that matter. . .
