I don't know but there is a guy here with a 280 that restored it and has done crazy engine mods and it has 375 bHp, but his is also turbo charged, but from just the stats you should take him. If it is turbo it will be close.

Race him and find out which is quicker.

Stock? you'd kill him.

There are NO FAST CARS from the 70's!!

Here's one from the early 80's which was faster than the 70's model.

Oh, I guess the '70 Boss 302 and 429's aren't fast? Nor is the '71 Boss 351? Nor the Panteras of the 70's. There are PLENTY of fast cars from the 70's.

Plus, the '79 through '83 280zx's are the same stats. So the '79 is probably on par with the '83 stats.

It'll be a drivers race.

let's look at the 1972-1980 mustangs, eh?

2 years don't make the 70s.

an 02 auto goes 16.2

the manual goes 15.3.

It's not even close, man.

The '79 280Z was a lighter car than an '83 280ZX....both are lighter than our Mustangs.
I kinda miss my old 82 280ZX :-(

Default Mustang vs. Z

I am the proud owner of a 1995 Mustang 3.8L. Unfortunately, my older brother is the proud owner of a 1977 Datsun 280z 2+2. If you like looking at Z-car tailights all day, than the 'stang V-6 is your car!!! He had the block apart one time, and I swear that those intake ports were big enough to put your fist through!!! I'm stayin' with the ford though, my brother has to pay $75.00 a piece for stinkin import sun visors!

the 95 v6s are a lot slower than the 99+ v6s.

Cool Mustang vs. Z

He dropped a 5 speed in it, but that was an option in 77.

I had a 1977 280Z also... man, i loved that car... It was fast and nimble... But like most 280Z's of that era, it pretty much rotted away. When I got rid of it the floors were gone, the doors wouldn't latch right, the brakes didn't work... but dang that car would still run 140MPH... that motor was rock solid... and the tranny wasn't bad either... LOL!

Almost forgot... I got pulled over in the first 30 minutes of owning the car.... Turned right from a stop light, stomped on the gas... i'm going sideways down Greenfield... didn't see the cop car... GULP!! .. The guy was VERY COOL! Told me he pulled me over because he could'nt see my temp tag in the window... Then in a very STERN voice said, "You will be more careful from now on won't you?" And he let me off! PHWEW!!!
