Exclamation reason for v6 bashing

This is my explanation for the v6 bashing that's been going around. First of all, I've had my 01 GT for a couple of weeks now and I love the thing! Yes, I had a v6 (it was a firebird) before I got the v8. Anyways... since I've had my GT, I've had at least 6 or so v6 mustangs pull up to me thinking they were god's gift to the road (all of which were driven by 16 yo punks who looked like they were fresh out of middle school). Every one of them has given me the same stuck up look (all were driving very nice v6 cars.... most had body mods). When they tried to race me, they got their asses handed to them like it was nothing. As a GT owner... I get sick of kids running there mouths about their v6 cars... Now I am not bashing the v6 mustang, my girlfriend has one and it's a nice car, but I am bashing the attitude that some v6 owners have towards other cars. A v6 owner who thinks he can take a GT is no better than a Honda Civic owner who thinks he can beat a GT. And I am not saying that v6 in incabable of beating a GT.... I know that with enough mods anythings possible. All I'm asking is that car owners (v8 owners included) know there place and stick to it. If you don't know if your car can beat another one, then don't act like it can cuz you don't know.

I think that it's the old "Hope springs eternal" syndrome. A guy I know has a '02 GT convert with auto. He was driving to work on a highway when a very late model Corvette comes up next to him and indicates he wants to run the Mustang. I have the same car as his, '02 Mustang vert auto, and I know what I would have done. I would have laughed and waved him on, no way I would want to get beat that bad. But guess what? They went from a roll, 60-120mph, and the Mustang beat the 'vette conclusively! The Mustang was bone stock! The Vette guy could have had a manual and shifted to the wrong gear, who knows? The Vette guy came up next to the Mustang and gave him the thumbs up! Just shows that when you have what appears to be a non competitive machine, you may still have a chance. I think that is what drives some people to do what they do. As far as bashing V6 Mustangs, the facts are that 3 out of 4 Mustangs sold are V6's. If it weren't for the sales of the V6 they most likely wouldn't build a miniscule number of V8's. The V6's are great cars in their own right. As pointed out in the previous post, the attitudes of some V6 and V8 owners are the problem. Its probably a good idea to ignore the ignorant few and just enjoy the ownership of our own model Mustang.

Perhaps they thought they had the correct modifcations to take on a GT and see how they would do

But that's not the v6 bashing we're talking about. As you can tell none of us on this site are those of what you describe. And those guys weren't getting all up in your face and ****, they just wanted to race, and they lost. Most of here's respect every car and Don't like it when GTers mouth of V6s like, it's some girl car, or it's a slow junk for no aparent reason. If a v6 is mouthing off.. then of course it's tolerable to respond. But that's not what we're talking about.

And don't get mad if one of those sixers beat you either lolz Jk

Well I'm far from being a 16 year old punk, and I don't street race, but at the track it is a rare occasion for me to "get my ass handed to me" by a GT or Cobra. Most of the time it is the other way around. I toy with the N/A Cobras and am slightly faster than the 03's. I know my place. I kinda like it when I show up at the track and people bash me and then find themselves running a second or two slower. Teenage kids with any type of performance model car be it a mustang camaro or what have you is going to act like they can hang with anyone because that is their age. New GT and Cobra guys have the same attitude though when they get their cars. It has a V8 under the hood so they are invincible. You laugh at the v6 guys thinking that their v6's are fast, I laugh at the GT guys thinking their stock auto's are fast. So what?

My feeling is that whenever I ask a performance related question about my V6, some smart guy always has to say, "Just buy a GT" or "You should have bought a GT" Get's kind of annoying after awhile...

Guys, I agree with you... and I hope you don't think i was bashing the v6. Trust me, I know my place. With a stock GT I try not to start to much cuz honestly, I know my car isn't the fastest thing on the road. The reason I started this post was to give my two cents on what's been going on. Yeah, I don't agree with someone who bashes your cars just because it's a v6. I'll be the first to admit that it's not the size of the engine, it's how fast the car is... and that's the bottom line really. I know that some v6's out there could stomp my car in the ground... I really wish I had 12k to put into my car but I don't. Just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't bashing the v6, just the punk kids who drive some of them.... I really can't stand them because they are everywhere around here. Anyways, just wanted to clear that up.

Pinto... first of all, this message is in NO way bashing your car, in fact, it would probably beat the crap out of mine. That being said I'm just curious to know this. Why not spend all that money on aftermarket parts on a GT? If you did this you'd probably run with vetts (new ones) and cobras? Anyways.. like I said, I'm not suggesting anything I really am just curious because as someone who had a v6 just a month ago.... I tried to save most of my money for my car now. Just curious for an answer, and again.... i do respect your car so don't take this the wrong way.

Ok... here' my list of why I went for the 05 V6 vs GT.

1) I really didn't want to pay over sticker for a GT... I could have afforded it but I just couldn't do it. I paid less than sticker using my x-plan on the V6.

2) I have a 16 year old... I don't need 300 HP today... but some time down the road I might... LOL!

3) To keep peace in the family I HAD to have an automatic... I just couldn't bring myself to by a GT with an AUTO! LOL!

4) So after the above teenager is out of the house maybe I'll add that supercharger... Guess what... the insurance company still treats it as a V6... And I pay the cheaper premium...

So for me the V6 was just a better fit than a GT.... And I very happy with my decision... But everyone just assumes that every one that buys a Mustang need to buy a GT... I just get tired of going through my reasoning with every one that stops and stares at my car... LOL!

When I bought my car I had some other toys to play with, an 85 T-bird with a cobra motor in it, a 64 T-bird, and a 66 Mustang and I bought my Mustang as a daily driver. Little by little I sold those cars and started putting some stuff on the Mustang. I then just though it would be fun to take on the challange of building a 6er. Not a lot of guys out there have a real fast V6 so it has a unique factor as well. Building a 6 is pretty cheap as well. I have around $4400 invested in my car and that is including a new hood, and rims. I feel that the 3.8 is quite a bit cheaper to build than a 4.6. Especially when it comes to buying heads and cams. The cheaper insurance is nice too. After I started building the motor I really started seeing how much potential was there and I really got into it. Not many people give the motor much credit but then again like I said not as many people build them, I think that is due to the younger guys buying them that can afford them but don't have the money to make the car what it can be.

Thanks for the response... I never really thought about it that way... I went with the GT simply because I don't have much money to spend on aftermarket products. Hope it goes well for you.

I agree with you, I am a 17 year old, who thinks he can take anyone out on the road (even though I can't, and I KNOW I can't, or unless I know the car is a 3420324093 times faster) BUT STILL, I'm just trying to mess around, and have a good time. I don't take any of that personal, unless it's a ricer, which I'm not hating on, it's just I love racing those

Perhaps, if you'd bought a 6, you'd have extra money in your pocket for aftermarket products.

I only say that when v6s say How do you drop a 4.6 or a 5.0 in my sixer?
Answer - Just go buy the GT.

the 3.8 has huge potential. They're Lighter, and can hold a good amount of power- what's not to be understood- cheaper to mod- cheaper to hold (Insurance) - It's a good car. the only thing it lacks is sound and the v8 respect- but that doesn't really matter when you're going for speed.

Even the turbo charged 2.3 4 cyl mustang pulled as hard as the 5.0. lol.

-I'm going to try and buy a Gt for reasons that I liked to mod my sixer (and I am trying to keep it for that reason) but my 94 can be a little unreliable at times and it's tired and the body's been through 11 years. I can buy a GT and have all the power I'll ever need. won't even modify it much, prolly wont at all because I don't really want to **** up my first car I bought new and needs to last me a decade. the v6 could do the same - just a little weary on the 4.0 - if they kept the 3.8 or 3.9 I would be pretty sane in buying a 2005 v6. but since they took it out Im gonna try and work for the GT and finally the prices are dropping near sticker so ::Fingers crossed:: lol
