Default Follow up question on Dualies on 05 V6

I have a follow up question. I too am new to the Mustang, and I've been out of the performance racer market for 10 years. I did a lot of bolt on work with ricers back in the mid 90's with my Accords and Civics, so the concepts still apply. However, I am completely new to Mustangs.

I just bought a V6 and read in another forum to go with dual exhaust from Magnaflow. But saw someone posted a message here that the dual exhaust sounds funny on the V6. I just wanted to confirm that this is the case. My goal here is to get a litte HP boost (my understanding is to expect 10-18 HP) and to get a better sound. Am I better off just replacing the muffler with a Flowmaster 40 or Magnaflow?

Any bolt on suggestions are appreciated, I put a K&N drop in filter in it, and I'm awaiting K&N to come out with a CAI.

Thanks so much.

-Todd

Sound is totally subjective. I know folks who think the GT sounds funny. But that's beside the point. . .

If you run a search of Mustang exhaust clips, you'll be able to hear and judge for yourself the sounds of the exhaust.

There may be some at MustangExhaust.com, or at the Magnaflow site.

Cool, thanks! Will I get more HP with the dualies from Magnaflow, or is there no difference considering I have only one pipe comming out of my CAT.

It depends on what you want to do.

I don't have much experience with the 4.0L, but I suspect that engine is also capable of being over exhausted, and you can lose hp and torque if you don't re-do the heads & cams.

If you plan on doing some sort of power adder (N2O, Blower, Turbo) I'd go for the dual exhaust, as it will only help you once your plans are completed.

I just bought a 2005 V6 redfire, and cannot be or more thrilled.
This forum helps a lot. Like Susie I am VERY new to this whole modification thing, but am very interested. My previous car was a 1984 parisian!!! stock :-) so needless to say i dont know much about modification.

Can anyone suggest whats really the best bang for your buck when it comes to improved power? my understanding is that while a new exhaust system will give you a nice, deep sound, a supercharger is really the way to go when considering cost/power ratio. is this true? and if it is, are there any superchargers out there yet for the new V6, or should i wait until theres more available. thank you so much for the help guys!

I don't know of any that are out right now, but Vortech and ATI have them in development.

It depends on your budget and goals.

Once you have that figured out, it'll be easier to discuss . ..

Thanks for the response. Money wise I'm looking to invest a lot in this car over time, so spending 7-800 bucks here and there over time won't be the end of the world, I could do more if need be I just want ball park for what stuff may cost. As far as goals go, I just want to make the thing move and sound good. Long term? I'd say if I can make it have a real nice sound (I saw that Magnaflow has a dual exhaust system for the V6, good investment?) and give it maybe an extra 80 hp ? I'd be pretty happy too. I wouldn't mind improving the acceleration a bunch too, although I'm not sure exactly how I'd go about doing that.

The cheapest way to make 80-90 hp is N2O.

most reliable is supercharging.

to get your engine to get there naturally aspirated will cost you around $5,000.

The altitude . . .

I don't know if that's a good time or not . ..

what's "good oil?" Motorcraft is a semisynthetic, which is better than most of 'em on th emarket . ..

what RPM are you launching, and when are you shifting?

How many miles on the odo?

what's your budget?

The altitude is high i have raced a mustang exactly like mine that is a standard and i beat her by .8 the oil i am using is quaker state fully synthetic there is 43k on the odo and i am launching at about 3-3.5 rpm my tire pressure was at 20 in the back and i was squaking in first and second so i dropped psi to 17 and i am not squaking at all in second and just enough in first the other thing is that my car kinda bogs down at take off i was told to raise my rpms did that didn't work tried lowering them thta didn't work so i don't know i am stumoed i would probably be in the 16's if it wasn't for that

raise the tire pressure. On modern radials, you don't get much from lowering it.

Get a rear sway bar (GT takeoff is the cheapest at around $35.00. That'll settle down your rear.

And pick up a set of underdriver pulleys. Do you use a lot of stereo equipment?
