Okay, let me start my saying "I'm just a dumb gurl"....... No really, I'm an ICU RN and I know just about everything there is to know about the human body, but not diddly squat about my pony's body. But I am trying to learn. I just bought a 2005 Mustang V-6 Premium package, mineral grey. Went with the V-6 for many reasons, including money, insurance, and the fact that I have 4 teenagers still living at home (yikes!). I want to do some upgrades to it, but I'm not sure where to start. And most people on these threads talk so technical, I'm not sure what they are talking about. Are there any books I could read to help with learning the basics? Regarding the upgrades, I will either have the work done, or have my husband or sons assist. I'm thinking of maybe some dual exhausts, possible a K-N Air filter, things like that to make it sound burbly & increase the horsepower. Someone suggested a cam, but I really don't know what that is. Also, I'd like to do some things to the body without getting too aggressive. This is my first stang, and I'm telling you, it was love at first site. I'll never buy anything other that a mustang again. Any help all ya'll "experts" can give me will be much appreciated. Thanks!!!
Well, pretty much all you listed; I want it to be a purdy girl, with a mean-ass attitude underneath. I'm into increasing the horsepower, noise level, etc. And I want it to look different, to distinguish it from the pack. Pretty much what everybody else wants... In regards to budget, I'm not sure about that, would like to start small and move my way up. I do have a fairly good disposable income, so a few hundred or even a K at a time would not pinch too bad. I'm going to give Super Six a call, and browse a few of the websites I've seen mentioned, to get some ideas. But like I said before, way too much technical talk for me!!!

For your needs, I'd stick with bolt-ons. You can go to Steeda motorsports (should be in the links page) for a lot of goodies.
More should be on the way soon!

Stuff you can install in your driveway in 3 hours or less . . .
basically you remove the old part and install the new more efficient part.
No engine teardown/rebuild, etc.
In a few months, ATI should have a supercharger available, (the ultimate bolt-on!).
Where in Arkansas are you? I used to live in Fayetteville . . .

Right now you are at a terrible disadvantage being that your V-6 is an '05 model. SuperSix Motor Sports has all kinds of neat stuff for 94-2004 3.8 V-6 but I don't think they've explored the new 4.0 engine yet. The 05 has entirely different engine than the previous generation Mustang. It is a 4.0 liter 60 degree V-6 based on the Explorer Ranger truck engine. The aftermarket has been quick to pump out go fast stuff for the 05 4.6 V-8 but has pretty much ignored the new V-6. Magnaflo has recently released an axle back muffler for the 05 V-6. It is a single low restriction muffler with a brightly polished case and exhaust outlet. Duel exhaust would not help much on a basicly stock V-6. The stock system on the 05 V-6 is pretty darn efficient to begin with. 2" mandrel bent pipe coming off of the exhaust manifolds ( which look like cast iron headers - pretty darn efficient) and merge into a 2 1/2 " exhaust pipe leading to the muffler. My advice to you is to do nothing for the time being, save your money and wait for the aftermarket venders to start pumping out the parts. Then go splurge and have fun

Competition Cams has cam/spring packages available, and there are already computer chips and headers available.
Steeda has a cold air intake, and I think they may have underdrivers released as well.

Thanks for the info. I spoke with a local Hot Rod Shop here, and they said dual exhaust would not do well on my car; said the V-6's "sound funny" with duals since they don't have the extra 2 barrels. I really don't know that much about the whole exhaust thing, just that they come out the back of the car..... But like I said, I want to learn.

Eh, you can listen to other sixes w/ dual exhaust, the site's been posted before.
basically, you engine is an air pump, so what you're trying to do when you tune and modify your car is to make it more efficient at moving air. the more air you can get into and out of the system, the more power you'll make.
