Default tested 0-60 :|

Well I dunno if I should be happy or not.

This morning I figured I got some time before work so I went to my testing zone haha.

I didnt want to put to much pressure on my car so I didn't power break. I didn't do the air conditioning trick, or retune my trans.

But I took a video of my 0-60 this time with my camera phone.

then I put my camera Phone to a digital time watch.

It came out to be 9.56 seconds.

I wonder if that would be a lot better after power breaking, and some of the ol' tricks.

I figure this is good since my car was probably tested like this at 11.5

and maybe after Power breaking and few tricks up my sleeve, could this 0-60 be down in 8 or 7s?

I figure after mods.

Custom Dual Exhaust - 5 hp
UDPs - 10 hp
CAI - 5 hp

I figure im running 165-170 hp and about 215 lbs ft torque.
and weighing in at - 3230 lbs or so. (adding in like strut tower brace, bullit wheels and myself 185)

Power brakeing will give you something . Also try it with a quarter tank of gas
or less and removeing any extra weight you can . Spare tire , jack , loose objects inside car . Also , run during the coolest part of the day . This might give you a tick or so on the clock . I also noticed on my car that it does seem to run better with the higher grade of gas .

My car seems slow from 0 - 30 but after she hits 30 hang on . Is your car like that ? My car has 67K miles on her and has had a fresh tune up a 1K miles ago . I also get alittle over 21 MPG , but I must admit I do jump it alot and it is short ( 7-8 mile ) jumps at a time for the most part . Does this sound right to you ?

Yeah I can pull out all the weight and see how I do.

actully lower octane gas one v6 will create more combustion because it is less refined.

the A/C trick - if you turn on the A/C the Engine turns off economy mode and runs full power to run the A/C. but with the old stangs if your turned the A/C off it would stay off economy mode for a few minutes, so yuo get full power and no A/C interference, just a few more ponies. Nice little edge.

Powerbraking generally knocks off 2-3 secs.

If you want to know roughly how much, time your car to 2500 rpm. and subtract that total, and add 0.5 secs.

(That's very rough, though . . . and I don't know if it'll work with the new transmissions . . .)

This is the way we used to guesstimate what my cousin's car was running while his transmission was going out. He'd street race for money, then he'd have to race to fix the car . . .

That's harsh man!

My 0-60 is under 8 seconds in most conditions. (I have a 2000 however). No powerbraking here. I need to replace my pads in the rear as it is!

What exactly is powerbraking? Is it just holding the gas until the rear almost starts to spin?

Also, my friend has a Lexus es300 (luckily not the IS series...). Think I could beat him? Both cars are stock, and both are autos. The other guy seems to think that no matter what, more HP is faster (including high HP trucks) :thumbsup

Lexus is 95 or 96, and probably around 90k miles on it. My mustang is a 96, with almost 90k on it.He drives it like a granny (which is funny to watch), but probably wont hold back if he finds me . He considers his lexus an excellent performance car, able to beat my v6 with little or no competition....

/me thinks its time to go buy a K&N drop in...

I have seen a Fram AirHog filter for $40. How does it compare?

Also, does using the console shifter affect the accel any? I am not sure that the auto tranny is using the optimal shift points, so I usually use the 1-2-Drive to get off to a good start (Good/Bad...?).

Is the Lexus an auto?

using the shifter in the auto will slow you down, and can affect your transmission performance and life if fluid gets trapped in the bands.

I have been looking everywhere for reliable 0-60 times for a 96 auto, and I cant seem to find any. And I find that 9.9 seconds is a bit slow for a 0-60, as I can almost hold my own against a 92 240sx (maybe .1 sec behind, rated at around 8.3 seconds)
