best to get underdriver pulleys, and drop in filter, and start saving for a port & polish.
Leave the silencer in. You'll get hot fan wash, and the intake flows fine for pre-99 heads.

I have a 98 with a 11# procharger kit, borla side exhaust, custom dynotune, Pro-M univer. MAF, Kirban AFPR, 42# injectors and all stock internals.
On my dyno run, I made 283 rwhp...........but I also have about $5000 invested
which is MORE than a 98GT, for the same amount of money.
