So say if i just added a cut-off pipe onto my y pipe to appear as duals on my future 99 v6, then put two high perfomance muflers on... Will I see much off an overall gain in power?
OR
Something i';ve heard of people doing with Y pipes: Weld the muffler where the pipes meet, add the extra pipe for the dual look. I think people do this really for the lower cost of only buying one muffler, but someone told me it may actually help in being louder, and possibly still same amount of gain or more in power... What you think?
Yeah im sure it would... But im not much of a fan of the sound of flowmaster, thats what everyone else has, i like to be original, yet still loud with a bellowing low rumble. I was thinking of possibilly a set of magnaflows, or still wondering what kind of effect it would have to put the ONE muffler chamber in the middle of the y pipe where the it meets and adding the extra pipe for the dual look...
And What other mufflers sound good and loud with good performance gains for a v6?
"A friend of mine has a v6 mustang and was thinking about putting a duel exhaust kit on his car. He suggested it to someone and they told him he would lose power. Is this true? I wouldn't think so".
Loses low end power, but gains top end power. Since you'll gain a lot more power, at top end...dual exhaust is a good thing.
Yes the V6 does need backpressure to operate properly. All motors do, but carburated engines are not as susceptible to the effects.
Too large a pipe, as kscoyote said, will hurt TQ. Keep pipe size at 2-2.25 inch to minimize TQ loss while gaining hp. Remeber that the V8 Mustang came with 2.25 pipe so if it can handle the exhaust needs of a V8, it is more than enough for the 6.
i put california turbos on my 94 v6 5spd w/turn downs just before the rear axle and it sounds great and it got me a 10.4 @72mph in the 1/8 to beat my bros camaro 305(that has quite afew mods).

Superstang,
I read an article a few years back where they did various mods to exhaust systems. They found that if there was not at least 18 inches of pipe behind the mufflers, performance would be hurt substantially
i went and found my time slip and i made a mistake,it was 10.65@70.2mph.and as for the turn downs ,i had tailpipes on it and took them off to make it kinda look the part of pro-street and noticed a little better off the line take off and the sound is just plain awesome,it has a nice raspy grawl to it.it does vibrate the interior a little and sets off car alarms

hi guys, i was reading at all your coments. i recently tried the following setup. i have a v6 94.. i bought an offroad hpipe and the slp loudmouth cat back...
so i removed from the headers my Y pipe that contains the catalycs..
i connected the h pipe to the headers. and then all the cat back from slp...
how it sounds? it souns insane loud. its almoust like driving with open headers, nocats , no muflers.. well i didnt like it, itrs too loud and doesnt have any tone..
My car also doesnt push like the way it used to do.. my car got really lack of power and torque..
So some people say its because of the backpresure. By not having mufflers (slp loudmouth is like no muflers almoust) u are not getting that back presure , so u loose lowend torque...
SOme other people say that its because of the removal of my Y pipe..
SOme people is telling me to keep my offroad h pipe and put 2 flowmaster 40 series and i should get my torque and power back with a nice tone also...

PLEASE HELP!!
What's the Diameter? That's the x-factor. on the older cars 2.25 is as far as you should go, the newer ones can take 2.5 without losing too much or being tunable.
Also need to know what else you've done to the car . ..

some of you guys are spending a lot on these cat-back systems and such.
I gained about 10/15 HP by going to a mom & pop muffler shop. I had them cut the pipes about 4 inches behind the downstream O2 sensors. They custom made a set of 2.5in pipes and welded them in along with the 2 Flowmasters I brought in. The exhaust exits the rear, like the stock exhaust. The whole setup cost me less than $200.00. $100 for parts & labor at the shop & $80 for the flows. It might be something to look into, save some $$$ for something else.
i went back to the shop. I kept my offtoad h pipe and replaced the slp loudmouth for 2 flow master 40 series.. I got back my back pressure. the car is insane fast!.. people out there, please do not install slp loudmouth in any mustang, as u will loose backpresure since u wont be carrying mufflers. V6 need good mufflers in order to generate that backpresure.
My car right now sounds even more than the v8 and the power is great. i gained probably 25 HP..
Thank u all...

It's more diameter than any particular system -The loudmouth is a 3" diameter system isn't it?

i have flowmaster 40 series (american thunder series) on my v6 and everyone thinks i have a v8. it doesn't idel as loud at a v8 but when im crusing at 2 grand it sounds just like a v8. would defently recommed flowmaster. it is a 2.5 inch pipes cat back. i had it done at midas for $350 for everything.
