I just bought a 2000 V6 and I was wondering if the flowmaster dual exhaust 40 series would make a difference as far as a deeper sound...i really don't want to buy it, install it and then have my mustang sound like a honda. Is it really worth buying for a 3.8L??
I heard a v6 camaro with a flowmaster on it the other night and it sounded kinda like a ricer, a little deeper but nothing like a v8. I dont wanna burst your bubble, but thats just my opinion.
I got the Flowmaster 40 series about 2 months ago. I was happy with the sound difference. Just dont get a big pipe. Stay around 2.25 and it should sound pretty good. Its no V8 but it gives it something else. I got my custom and a shop, much cheeper and got to pick everything. My friend has the 40's on his mustang and he likes them to. He is actually the 1 that got me to get mine. I paid $370 or $400 for the whole thing. It also makes it look better in the back with 2 pipes and not 1. Almost anyone you talk to will say something different about them thought. :thumbsup

well put, 2.25" or 2" is perfect for the six, and trust me you wont sound like a honda.

Before I wrecked my V6 camaro, I had the Series 40 muffler with quasi dual exhaust setup. I can honestly say that around here, people asked me if that was a V8 (because it looked like should have been) but when I tell them that it wasn't, they would look at me like I didn't think a V6 could sound that good.
I miss the rumble at low rpm and the loud muscle car scream at high rpms. I want to get some for the Mustang but I am not going to do that, not now, probably not again for a while.
I will say this though, get a flow master system and make sure that you have no resonators between the cats and the muffler (that is when it sounds ricey)... And don't get Magnaflow (it sounds ricer than a Nissan 350Z with Magnaflow mufflers on it).

If you really want your v6 to sound good get the MAC long-tube headers installed, add an H-pipe and then get some flowmasters or MAC exhaust. When you start adding stuff like a cold-air-intake you'll get more sound from your exhaust. But, yeah, you should take a look at the MAC site!
PLUS, you'll get more HorsePower! :thumbsup

sadly ... the only way to get the sound out of a v8 is to install a V8 engine or buy a Gt.. other then that the best you can do is get a better growl outta your 3.8 thats not as deep or loud as a v8. the Flowmaster 40 series is a nice set and no way in heck does it sound like a fart cannon on a ricer . like the other dudes sayd just stay around 2'' to 2.25'' and you'll have a nicer agressive sounding pony ! and if you look around enough you can find that Exhaust system cheaper then 300 , midas did mine for 276 and it sounds real good...

i recently purchased the flowmaster 40 serious and got dual exhaust. does not quite soung like a v8 but it sounds very nice. really aggressive. you would be pleased with it.
same i have it on mine and i am very happy with it !! a friend of mine has an after market exhaust and it is not a flowmaster and it just does not have the same sound as mine . for sure go with the flowmasters they are worth evey penny !!!
I've got dual exhaust on my 2000 from flowmaster and someone told me it almost sounded just like their '96 GT. So you'll be pleased with the flowmaster dual exhaust. I kno I am.
Lots of talk about sound but how does everone feel thier performance is after the switch? I'm still thinking of going dual (catback), but want to make sure I don't lose any power. Better sound would be nice though. I feel the only sound you get out of the V6 is from the engine when you slam the gas down. The stock single exhaust doesn't make much noise at all.

Jsut don't go larger than 2.25" and you'll make good power, no matter the manufacturer.
Make sure you disconnect the battery and reconnect to get the computer to adjust.
